5.正确答案:A答案解析:in proportion to:按…
介词from与后面的the bad men连接。break out:爆发。
9.正确答案:C答案解析:with the door open是with 的复合结构,open 为形容词,表状态; stood与came, entered为并列关系,在句中作谓语。
13.正确答案:A答案解析:be identified with:和……
20.正确答案:D答案解析:There being no rain为 there be句型的独立主格形式。
21.正确答案:A答案解析:在以here, there, up, down, in, on, out, away, off等副词开头的句子里,主语是名词时,句子主谓全部倒装,以示强调。
which指代problem,into与research搭配。
C.Had it not been for the free ticket =If it had not been for the free ticket.
with whom放在从句中即为:my father works with the engineer.
That English is being accepted as an international language is a fact.
go with:伴随,与……相配
dating back to the 16th century的逻辑主语是stone figure.
You can enjoy the scenery from the house,故可排除A选项,选D.
other than 不同于,除了;in place of 代替;instead 代替。

The Stranger WhoChanged My Life
It was a sunny morning in the spring of1966. I was driving a taxi, looking for a customer. While passing New York Hospital,I found a man running down the hospital steps, waving at me.
I stopped. The man reached the taxi andjumped in. “The Airport, please,” he said. As always, I wondered about mypassenger. Was this man a talker? After a few moments, he started saying, “Howdo you like driving a taxi?”
“It’s OK” I said. “I make a living and meetinteresting people sometimes.”
“Whatdo you do?” I asked.
“Iam a doctor at New York Hospital.”

Talk to Your Kidsabout Their Eating Habits Carefully
Weight is never an easysubject. It can be risky for parents to raise the issue of eating habits andweight with their kids.
“No kid ever lost weightbecause his mother told him he was fat,” a friend told me when I was worriedabout my son’s weight.
It turns out she was right, according to a new study. The study was directed by Dr. Berge at University ofMinnesota. She found that kids whose parents discussed eating in a healthy waywere less likely to have eating problems. But 64% of the kids whose parentsfocused on their weight turned to unhealthy eating behaviors. Some kids went onextreme diets, and others even ate no food. So eating disorders were caused.Things were worse when fathers joined in the discussions with their daughtersand focused on weight. “Fathers should never comment on their daughters’weight,”says Berge. Instead, she suggests, fathers should focus on their daughters’interests. That can help them feel loved and confident enough to work on their weightissues.
How should parents talk tokids about eating behaviors? According to Berge, they should avoid focusing onhow much their kids weigh. They should talk to them about being healthy. Don’tcompare them with others. Ideally, both parents should share theresponsibility. If that’s not possible, choose the parent whose words cause theleast amount of stress and who demonstrates healthy eating.

Plagiarism(剽窃)
You just found some good stuff on the Web foryour science report. You copy a paragraph and paste it into your report. Thenyou continue your research. But you just made a big mistake. You committedplagiarism. Plagiarism is when you use someone else’s words or ideas andpretend that they are yours. It’s not allowed in school, college, or beyond.
The word “plagiarism” comes from Latin. Itmeans stealing a person’s ideas. But it’s not always easy to tell what isplagiarism and what is not. Sometimes, it’s accidental. You really intended todo your own work, yet ended up with some sentences that sound just likesomething you’ve read.
Though plagiarism can be accidental, it’ssometimes done on purpose. That’s just being lazy. By copying whole paragraphsfrom different places, you don’t have to spend the time thinking about thesubject, gathering your own thoughts about it, and then putting them intooriginal words. Cut, paste, and you’re done.
Most schools are pretty strict aboutplagiarism. If you’re caught, your graduation will be delayed or worse. At thevery least, you’re probably going to fail the assignment. When you’re older andin college, some schools will kick out students who plagiarize. When you’rekicked out of one college, it can be hard to get into another.
To be on the safe side, always make it clear wherethe information comes from. You need to write references. That’s a list of thesources you used for a project or report. To do that, you’ll need to know theauthor, the title, and the date it was published. If you write something reallygreat, maybe some day someone will quote you in a report.

C. The definition of plagiarism
