　　This is a true story told by my teacher who is in charge of the chapter " Geography of tourism in China" in the short-term training course in spare time .

　　There goes the story .

　　Once she made an inspection tour of the tourism resource to Huzhou ,a small city not far from Hangzhou . One day ,accompanied by a few officials of the local Travel Bureau ,she went to a village .In a deserted land ,they discovered a stele by chance ,on which there was Qianlong's inscription .They were very excited and told the village head about the importance of the site ,saying qianlong had been here and something must be done to protect the site .The news soon spread .The village head ,of course ,dare not neglect the great event ,so the next day he asked some designers and architects to deal with the protection work .

　　A variety of trees and flowers were planted .A small river was excavated ,which wound this way and that . A unique bridge was built across the bridge .Besides ,they set up an exquisite pavilion on the top of the hill ,where villagers could have a rest and get a birds-eye view of the landscape nearby .It was a deserted land in the first place(原来) ,as I told you .But now it was different .The ringing sound of the flowing water is pleasant to the ears . Taking a deep breath of the gentle and delicate fragrance of the flowers ,mixed with the bitter smell of greenness from the soil, one will get refreshed . What a poetic park !So the villagers ,when they saw the village head again,all thumbed up ," You did a good deed for us ..Everything is so beautiful except one stuff ."

　　" what is it ? "the village head asked .

　　“The shabby stone over there ”, with these words ,they pointed to the stele lying in front of the park ."

　　" oh… yeah , I think you are right " the village head muttered . " Move it away ,now !"

　　so several strong villagers came to help move it beyond the hill .

　　"That is more like a park ," somebody said .

　　Everyone seemed relieved .

　　A few days later ,the officials of the local Travel Bureau came again to check how the protection work was going on .They went to the original place where the stele was discovered but found nothing there .So they asked the village head,

　　" where is the stele ?"

　　" stele ? what is it like ? "

　　" A big stone of a quadrate shape with some words on it ."

　　"oh ,you mean the shabby stone ? We threw it away . It spoiled the

　　beautiful scenery ."

　　"shabby stone ? you are really something . It has a history of hundreds of years and was priceless. You can't afford it ,neither can I .That is the right stuff you should protect .Where is it ? Get it back ! Right now !" the officials were very angry .

　　Blushed with shame ,the village head made an apologize again and again .

　　"What are you waiting for ? Look for the stone !" the village head vented his anger on the villagers .

　　This time the shabby stone was repected in a more serious way .

　　Another few days later .The same officials came to the village for a third time ." It should be ok." they thought .

　　When they asked about the stele ,the village head promised ," Trust me . We did the right thing this time ." With his acting as the guide , the officials came to the place where the stele was standing .The moment they saw the stele ,everybody was made to open his eyes . The poor stele ,which they saw last time , took on a new look .With a fresh coat of paint the stele felt now flat and smooth and the broken corner was mended with cement as well . A real stone ... Before the officials could say a word ,the president said proudly ," It is no longer shabby now ,isn't it ? I asked the best craftsmen to do the job ."

　　"And who wrote this ?" the officials asked ,pointing to the steel which reads "xx village "

　　" oh , I did ."

　　Words failed the officials.
