  请认真阅读下列短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

  A

It seems that many parents have a lot to learn about what their children are doing online. According to a recent survey by the Symantec Corporation, which makes many kinds of security software for home and business computers, there’s a “significant digital(数字的)divide between parents and their kids.”

Parents of children under the age of 18 were asked to estimate(估计)how much time their kids spent online each week. The parents said about three hours a week on average. The kids – ages 8 to 17 – who took the survey said they’re spending an average of seven hours online each week.

“I really think that’s due to the time they spend on their mobile phones and computers, when their parents don’t even know they’re online,” says Symantec’s Bill Rosenkrantz. "Remember, cell phones, PDAs and video game machines all make it possible to access the Internet. You don’t have to sit in front of a computer screen."

And what are the kids doing on the Web? “They're doing things like downloading music, they're going to social networking sites, they're actually shopping online when parents don't think they're doing those kinds of activities,” says Rosenkrantz. “They're also, we think, doing some things with research papers and other kinds of activities with homework maybe where they're getting content online and they really shouldn't be.” Nearly a quarter of the kids (23 percent) admit to doing things their parents would not approve.

So how does a modern parent deal with this type of situation? “The first thing we strongly recommend is that parents spend time with their children online,” Rosenkrantz says. “Sit down with them and understand what they're doing. Secondly, have a dialog about it. Have a dialog about what's an acceptable activity, what's an unacceptable activity, and set some ground rules -- time online, things you can and can't do. Really have those conversations. That's the most important.” There are a lot of bad people on the Internet. That’s why it’s so important for parents to know what their kids are doing online.

  56. The figures in the second paragraph are used to show _______.

  A. children always spend too much time online

  B. time spent online changes with children's ages

  C. parents don't exactly know kids' online activities

  D. children spend more time online than their parents

  57. We can learn from the passage that _______.

  A. special home computers are being made by Symantec

  B. kids talk less with their parents due to computers

  C. all the kids surveyed don't obeyed their parents' rules

  D. parents are too busy to pay attention to their kids

  58. In Rosenkrantz's opinion, the key to the situation is that parents should _______.

  A. shorten their kids' time spent online B. have a talk with their kids

  C. use security software in computers D. know their kids' online activities

  59. What's the purpose of the passage?

  A. To advertise a new security software. B. To give reasons for kid's Internet addiction.

  C. To warn children of the danger online. D. To give a short introduction to a survey.

These are only a few rules in dog parks, but it is surprising how often rules get broken. Follow these rules to make sure you have a good time and help everyone stay safe.

  No Leashes(绳索)at the Dog Park

Never bring a leash inside the dog park. Once you are past the gate, the leash should come off as soon as possible. If your dog needs a leash in the dog park, they don't belong to the dog park. If you allow your dog in the dog park with a leash on, you are almost asking the other dogs to join together and hurt your dog. The leash makes your dog give off a message that says it is inferior(卑贱的), and should be picked on.

No Water at the Dog Park

This is not a hard rule, but many responsible dog owners bring water into the dog park. You'd better avoid bringing water into the dog park, because it spreads germs (细菌)quickly. I do offer my dog water before entering and after leaving the park, beside my car. It gets messy fast when many dogs are drinking water in the same place.

Do Not Bring Fierce(凶猛的)Dogs into the Dog Park

Do you have a fierce dog who loves to bite? Do not bring it to the dog park. This is a strict call for dog owners to see, as they love their pets. If the other dogs are leaving with their tails between their legs, or barking, then your dog is being a bully(横行霸道者). If your dog does this once in a while, it may not be a problem. If it always does this to other dogs, you need to stop going to the dog park.

There are hundreds of dog park websites, so find a good dog park website, and then bookmark it for future use.

  60. From the passage we know that _______.

  A. the rules made in the dog parks are not always followed

  B. only inferior dogs are allowed to have their leashes on

  C. dog owners are responsible if they bring water to the dog park

  D. the rules in the dog parks are meant to set the dogs there free

61.The underlined phrase " be picked on" in the passage probably means "_______".

  A. be unfairly treated B. be looked after C. be greatly respected D. be tied up

  62. You are advised not to bring your fierce dog to the dog park because _______.

  A. the other dog owners may be hurt B. it is hard to train such a kind of dog

  C. the other dogs may be frightened D. it belongs to another dog park website

  C

In very general terms(词语), pop culture, or popular culture includes the movies, television shows, sports, music, cooking, clothing styles and other examples of mass culture that society produces.

Many professors who study culture argue about what is, what is not, and what once was but is no longer popular culture. The fact that popular culture is always changing makes it even more difficult to define(定义)exactly.

Most people would probably agree that popular culture is influenced in some way by the cultural products that sell well and make money. Some experts notice the differences between a popular or "low" culture and a "high" culture valued by richer and more educated people in society. For example, such experts might say that a song by Britney Spears is an example of pop culture, but music by classical composers like Mozart or Bach is not.

Then again, other experts believe that there is no longer a "low" and "high" culture because the two have mixed together. The American economist(经济学家)Tyler Cowen does not believe in organizing culture into high and low. Instead, he says that a strong economy makes all kinds of culture possible.

And no discussion of popular culture could be complete without talking about Andy Warhol, the father of Pop Art. During the nineteen sixties, Warhol created a movement that celebrated turning everyday images of famous people and food advertisements into fine art.

Pop artists praised popular culture in all of its forms and made it the subject of their art. Andy Warhol said that once you understood Pop art, you could never see a sign the same way again. And he said that once you thought Pop, you could never see America the same way again.

  63. We know from the passage that _______.

  A. better-educated people usually value popular culture

  B. culture can be regarded as the product of economy

  C. "low" culture has already developed into "high" culture

  D. popular culture is greatly influenced by classical artists

  64. According to Paragraph 3, which of the following belongs to "high" culture?

  A. Television shows. B. Clothing styles. C. Britney songs. D. Bach's music

  65. The last two paragraphs mention Andy Warhol to show the relationship between _______.

  A. culture and his history B. Pop artists and Pop art

  C. popular culture and Pop art D. art forms and cultural products

  66. What would be the best title for the passage?

  A. What leads to popular culture? B. What's the meaning of popular culture?

  C. How was popular culture formed? D. How to define high and low culture?

  D

Many people say they wouldn't cheat on a test, lie in a job application or refuse to help a person in need.

But what if the test answers fell into your lap(大腿)and cheating didn’t require any work on your part? What if you didn’t have to face the person who needed your help and refuse them? Would that change your behavior?

New research out of University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) shows it might. “People are more likely to cheat when their wrongdoings don’t need an open action,” said Rimma Teper, lead author on the study. “If they can cheat without doing much work or avoid a person’s request for help without clearly refusing them, they are much more likely to do so.”

In one study, participants(参与者)took a math test on a computer. One group was told if they pressed the space bar(间隔键), the answer to the question would appear on the screen. The second group was told if they didn’t press the enter key within five seconds of seeing a question, the answer would appear. “People in the second group - those who didn’t have to physically press a button to get the answers - were much more likely to cheat,” said professor Michael Inzlicht of psychology(心理学), second author on the study.

In another study, the team asked participants whether they would volunteer to help a student with a learning disability. One group of participants had only the choice of checking a "yes" or "no" box on the computer. The second group of people could follow a link at the bottom of the page to volunteer their help or simply press “continue” to move on to the next page of their test. Participants were five times more likely to volunteer when they had to clearly pick either "yes" or "no".

“It seems to be more difficult for people to openly refuse their help, by clicking ‘no,’ than it is for them to simply click ‘continue’ and elude doing the right thing,” said Teper.

“When people are faced with actively doing the right thing or the wrong thing, there are a lot of emotions(情感)involved - such as guilt and shame - that guide them to make the moral(道义的) choice. When the wrongdoing is more passive, however, we saw more people doing the wrong thing and we believe this is because the moral emotions in such situations are probably less strong,” Teper said.

  67. Why were people in the second group in the first study much more likely to cheat?

  A. The first group of people didn't get a chance to do so.

  B. The second group of people wanted to get good marks.

  C. The first group of people were watched by researchers.

  D. The second group of people could do so more secretly.

  68. The underlined word" elude" in the passage may mean "_______".

  A. avoid B. practice C. keep D. risk

  69. What may influence a moral choice most?

  A. Experiences. B. Emotions. C. Rewards. D. Difficulties.

  70. What is the most suitable title for the text?

  A. Who makes a quick moral decision? B. How do people react to bad behavior?

  C. What are the causes of bad behavior? D. What makes researchers feel puzzled?

M: No. There are more cars in Guangzhou than in most other Chinese cities, but still far fewer than here. Many people ride a bike there.

W: Riding bikes must keep people healthy.

M: I think it does. It’s certainly better exercising than sitting in a car or a bus.

W: They must have buses in Guangzhou, too, don’t they?

M: Of course, they do. It’s very noisy in the rush hour. When people are coming and going from work, the ringing of bikes and buses make a terrible noise.

W: It can’t be much noisier than Hong Kong.

W: Our topic today is “My Favorite School”. Here’s Naomi Okada from Japan.

M: Hello, everybody! I’m an exchange student here at ELI. I enjoy studying English here, because I’ve met a lot of people from different countries, like Brazil.

W: OK. So can I say ELI is your Favorite?

M: Sure. The teachers are kind and friendly. The classes are small, giving me more chances to talk. And I like the free style of class here, where you can just talk, and give your opinion. Besides, the system is strict and tough. I’m learning a lot here.

W: Aha. Don’t you miss your family or your country?

M: Actually, the teachers are like parents to me. They make me feel comfortable. ELI is like my family, because now I have so many friends here. So boys and girls, if you ever want to study English in the USA, ELI is a great choice!

Micro blog is an Internet service for friends, family and coworkers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to simple questions.

I agree with those who say micro blog is different for each person, and what it is depends on how you use it.

Micro blog has become, for me, one of my networking tools, an information source, a living knowledge base, a tracking tool, and a source of simple fun and relaxation— all coming from the conversations on it and the topic communications in which I choose to participate. The flexibility and multifunction of micro blog continues to interest me.

To me, micro blog is much more than what I first thought it was. Now I use it as a powerful online marketing tool to communicate with everyone who has a relationship to my company. I’m convinced we are only scratching the surface of this tool and there will be some amazing developments within the year.
