　　Gist（内容简介）

　　Will Lightman, a rich, child-free and irresponsible hip Londoner, who in his thirties, in search of available women, invents an imaginary son and starts attending single parent meeting. But Will's hope of a continued bachelorhood is interrupted when he meets Marcus, one of his liaisons, an odd 12-year-old boy with problems both at home and at school, and also in many ways his complete opposite. Gradually, Will and Marcus become friends, and as Will teaches Marcus how to be a normal but cool kid, Marcus helps Will to finally grow up.

　　威尔是个三十多岁伦敦单身贵族，有钱，向往自由，又惧怕负责任。为了追求心仪的美女，威尔加入了单亲会，并假装自己有个儿子。结果，威尔结识了十二岁的马可斯，一个与他截然不同的、怪异的问题男孩，威尔的单身生活也由此被打断了。但是，慢慢地，威尔和马可斯成了好朋友，在威尔的帮助下，马可斯变回了正常的孩子，威尔也真正地成熟了起来。

　　(Will Narrating)In my opinion, all men are islands, And what's more,now's the time to be one. This is an island age. A hundred years ago, for instance, you had to depend on other people. No one had TV, or CDs or DVDs or videos or home espresso makers. As a matter of fact, they didn't have anything cool, whereas now, you see, you can make yourself a little island paradise. With the right supplies and more importantly, the right attitude, you can be sun-drenched, tropical, a magnet for young Swedish tourists.(Answering Machine Beeping)

　　(威尔独白)我认为，人人都是孤岛，而且，现在是个适合做孤岛的年代。这是个孤岛年代。一百年前，你必须依赖比别人，因为没有电视、CD、DVD、录像机，没有家用煮咖啡机。事实上，没有任何可以享受的东西。而现在，只要你有适当的设备、正确的心态，你完全可以变孤岛天堂，一个阳光灿烂的热带小岛，轻而易举地吸引的瑞典游客。(听电话录音)

　　Kristina: Hi, it's Kristina. I haven't heard from you. I had a great time last weekend, so give me a call, okay?

　　克里斯蒂娜：我是克里斯蒂娜，一直没有你消息。上周末，玩得很开心，记得回我电话，好吗?

　　And I like to think that, perhaps, I'm that kind of island. I like to think I'm pretty cool. I like to think I'm Ibiza.

　　Scene 2（场景2）

　　(Marcus Narrating)There were people out there who had a good time in life. I was beginning to realize I wasn' t one of them. I just didn't fit. I didn't fit my old school. I definitely didn't fit at my new one. I heard that some kids got taught by their parents at home, but Mum couldn't do that unless I paid her to teach me. Because it was just her and me. And she went to work. She made 400 pounds a week. Where was I gonna get that kind of money from? Maybe, if I was like that movie kid , Haley Joel Osment, I could pay her that much, but if that meant being good at drama, forget it. I was crap. at drama, 'cause I hated standing up in front of people. So, basically, I had to go to school.

　　(马可斯独白)有些人日子过得很开心，我却觉得自己没这个福气，我总是格格不入，在原来的学校这样，在新学校更是这样。听说有些父母会在家里教孩子，而我妈妈不会，除非我付她，学费。家里只有我们母子俩，她得上班，每星期赚 400英磅。我哪付得起这么一大笔钱?如果我是天才童星，比如像哈里·乔·奥斯蒙特，那就好了!但如果那样就得会演戏，可是，我一点都不懂演戏，我怕站在很多人面前。所以，我只好上学。

　　Scene 3（场景3）

　　Christine's husband: What about you, Will? Any desire for a family of your own yet?

　　克里斯蒂娜的'丈夫:威尔，有没有成家的打算啊?

　　Will: I'd rather eat one of Barney's dirty nappies. Not really, I'm all right.

　　威尔: 我宁愿吃班尼的尿布，也不想结婚生子。还没有，我现在这样挺好。

　　Christine: Oh, please, Will! What does that mean?

　　克里斯蒂娜:噢，威尔，你真是……这什么话啊?

　　Will: Oh, please, what?

　　威尔: 什么?

　　Christine: Well, look at yourself. You're 38，and you've never had a job or a relationship that lasted longer than two months. I wouldn't exactly say you were okay. I would say you' re a disaster. I mean, what is the point of your life?

　　克里斯蒂娜:你看看你自己，都已经三十八了，还整天游手好闲。连谈恋爱，也没有超过两个月的。怎么能算可以，简直就是很悲惨。这样生活，有什么意义?

　　Will: Bloody hell. Well, no, you're probably right. There's probably no point of my life. But thank you for bringing it up.

　　威尔: 或许你说得对，是没什么意义。谢谢你好心提醒我。

　　Christine's husband:Well, the reason we wanted you to come here today was, well, we wanted to ask you.

　　克里斯蒂娜的丈夫:我们叫你来，是想问你……

　　Christine: How would you like to be Imogen's godfather?

　　克里斯蒂娜:你愿不愿意做伊慕珍的教父?

　　Will: Seriously?

　　威尔: 说真的?

　　Christine: Seriously.

　　Will: Listen , I' m really , really touched, but you must be joking. I couldn't possibly think of a worse godfather for Imogen. You know what I'm like. I'll drop her on her head at her christening. I'll forget all her birthdays until her 18th , when I'll take her out and get her drunk and possibly let's face it, you know, try and shag her. Seriously. It's a very, very bad choice.

　　威尔: 谢谢你们看得起我，别开玩笑了。我哪做得了教父?你们应该很了解我的，比如说在洗礼上，我会把她摔个倒栽葱;而且我不会记得她的生日，只会记得她十八岁的生日，到时我会把她灌醉，然后设法弄到手。说实话，这不是个好主意。

　　Christine: Well, no, I just thought you had hidden depths , Will.

　　Will: Oh, no, no, no, no. You've always had that wrong. I really am this shallow.
