You cant pinpoint exactly what you want in life if youre constantly sacrificing your time and dreams for other people. You have to put yourself first. Ask yourself: If you werent tied down by your job, family, friends, or anything else, then what would you be doing right now? Always remember that its okay to put yourself first, because if you dont, then no one else will.

Dont feel bad for being selfish. Its your life. Its time for you to live it exactly the way you want to. If you constantly regret things you did or didnt do in the past, then you wont be able to move forward. Dont live in the past. Live in the present…and the future!

Sometimes its hard to figure out what you need. Sit down and think about what you need the most. Is it your family? The freedom to express yourself? Love? Financial security? Something else? If it helps, you can make a list of priorities. Also think about the kind of legacy you want to leave behind.

You can soar only by pushing back against something you dont want. Figure out what upsets you, and be specific about it. Dont just say that you hate your office job. Pinpoint exactly why you hate it. Could it be your micromanaging boss? Your workload? Your meaningless job title? Or all of the above? What bothers you, and how can you fix it? How much do you want to fix it?

Theres no waste to life if youre happy living it. Your happiness is the root of your desires. So take a few moments and really think about what makes you happy. Is it traveling? Being around children? Owning a successful business? Your significant other? Financial freedom? Once you pinpoint the one thing that makes you happy the most, youll have a pretty clear idea of what you should strive for in your life. .

Dont keep your goals and desires to yourself. Voice it all out! If you tell people what youre trying to accomplish, they will most likely support you and give you new ideas. Sometimes mother does know best!

Life doesnt always go how you want it. Dont feel dismay as your plans stray. Take control. Instead of freaking out, try your best to roll with the changes. You will get there some day. Youre just taking a little detour. Sometimes a positive attitude is all you need to keep going.

The worst sin towards our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them: thats the essence of inhumanity.

  ——George Bernard Shaw

Many people--especially young people--seem to have a hard time understanding other peoples right to quiet. My wife and I worked as camp hosts at a small campground for one summer, and we were only a bit surprised to see just how many people were willing to stay up very late at night talking and laughing around the campfire, even though they were literally surrounded by the darkened tents of other people who were trying to sleep.

I can understand the positive feelingof companionship and enjoying other peoples companies, but if we want to respect the rights of others, then its important that we recognize that theres a time and a place for everything.

My wife and I had to spenda lot of time reminding people that quiet hours had started at ten because people simply werent willing to respect those hours. They wanted to do what they wanted to do, and all of the other people who were affected by their actions simply didnt matter to them.

Many people know that the law of Karma eventually will cause some sort of return to the folks who dont respect the rights of others, but its a shame that we even have to think of such a thing. What would life be like if our understanding of Karma were to be limited to the positive returns that life would provide because we only shared positive thoughts, words, and actions with our fellow humans and the other living beings on thisplanet?

We should not, of course, make decision about what we do and do not do simply because of what we think well get back. Our decisions should be made based on whether what were doing is respecting the rights and needs of others.

Life, after all, is a cooperative effort, and the better we treat our fellow human beings, the more we respect them and their rights, the more positive and lovingand compassionate is this world going to be. Its a very simple and important principal for all of us to realize were going to give to the world in positive ways.

Some years ago on a hot summer day in south Florida a little boy decided togo for a swim in the old swimming hole behind his house.

In a hurry to dive into the cool water,he ran out the back door, leavingbehind shoes, socks, and shirt as he went. He flew into the water, notrealizing that as he swam toward the middle of the lake,an alligator wasswimming toward the shore. His mother - in the house was looking out thewindow - saw the two as they got closer and closer together. In utterfear, she ran toward the water, yelling to her son as loudly as she could.

Hearing her voice, the little boy became alarmed and made a return to swimto his mother. It was too late. Just as he reached her,the alligatorreached him.

From the dock, the mother grabbed her little boy by the arms just as thealligator snatched his legs. That began an incredible tug-of-war betweenthe two. The alligator was much stronger than the mother, but the motherwas much too passionate to let go. A farmer happened to drive by, heard herscreams, racedfromhis truck, took aim and shot the alligator.

Remarkably, after weeks and weeks in the hospital, the little boy survived. His legs were extremely scarred by the vicious attack of the animal and, on his arms, were deep scratches where his mothers fingernails dug into his flesh in her effort to hang on to the son she loved.

The newspaper reporter who interviewed the boy after the trauma, asked if he would show him his scars. The boy lifted his pant legs. And then, with obvious pride, he said to the reporter. But look at my arms. I have great scars on my arms, too. I have them because my mom wouldnt let go.

You and I can identify with that little boy. We have scars, too. No, notfroman alligator, or anything quite so dramatic. But, the scars of a painful past. Some of those scars are unsightly and have caused us deep regret.

But, some wounds, my friend, are because God has refused to let go. In the midst of your struggle, Hes been there holding on to you.

The opening of doors is a mystery act: it has in it some flavor of the unknown, some sense of moving into a new moment and a new pattern of the human rigmarole.

It includes the highest glimpses of mortal gladness: reunions, reconciliations and the bliss of lovers long parted.

Even in sadness, the opening of a door may bring relief: it changes and redistributes human forces. But the closing of doors can be terrible. It is a confession of finality. Every door closed brings something to anend. And there are degrees of sadness in the closing of doors. A door slammed is a confession of weakness. A door gently shut can be the most tragic gesture. Every one knows the painthat comes just after the closing of a door, when the loved one is still near, within hearing, yet already far away.

The opening and closing of doors is part of the serious flow of life. It will not stay still, or let us alone. We are continually opening doors in hope, closing them in despair.
