I remember that when i was in my teens, i used to rebel at many of the “do’s” and “don’ts” my parents used to dictate to me. for example, when i kept on playing jazz records on the record player, my father used to condemn such music as sheer noise and replace them with disks of classical music that i always considered extremely dull.

My mom and dad were also very particular about the friends i went out with, always quoting the maxim the “one rotten apple could ruin a whole barrel of apples.” when i insisted that i sleep with my pet dog peppy, they immediately said no because they thought that i would be bitten by fleas.these are just a few examples of many of the things that i thought my parents were ueasonable about. today, however, i am also the father of a boy of fifteen, and i find that i, too, am pressuring my son with a lot of rules and regulations that he seems to find hard to swallow. the other day, i noticed that my son’s hair was altogether too long, so i told him to go to the barber’s and get it trimmed short. ordinarily, he is fairly obedient, but this time he put his foot down.

“What’s wrong with long hair?” he said. “all my buddies have long hair. and besides, it’s my own hair, isn’t it? i don’t think you have the authority to order me to cut it short, even if you’re my father!”

When i was a boy, if i had spoken with such impertinence to my father, i know that he would have given me a good thrashing. but i suddenly realized that we are now living in a more liberal world, and that my son’s insistence on wearing his hair long was merely an instance of the generation gap that existed between us. so i relented, and so he still wears his hair long.、

  House by Limpid water,Hi everybody.

How I wish to live a house surrounded by limpid water! From the windows of the house you could see the clear water flowing by. And the fresh smell of the water could make you forget a day’s hard work and feel vigorous again. And the limpid water could bring us green trees, pleasant grass and colorful flowers. Yes, it is like a beautiful drawing. Yes, it is my good dream!

I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many months of struggle and suffering. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word, it is victory. Victory at all costs—victory in spite of all terrors—victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival. Let that be realized, no survival for the British Empire, no survival for all that British Empire has stood for , no survival for the urge, the impulse of the ages, that mankind shall more forward toward his goal. I take up my task in buoyancy and hope. I feel sure that our cause will not be suffered to fail among men. I feel entitled at this juncture, at this time, to claim the aid of all and to say, “Come then, let us go forward together with our united strength.”

THE PRESIDENT: Good evening, everybody. I just want to make a few brief comments about the attacks across Paris tonight. Once again, we've seen an outrageous attempt to terrorize innocent civilians. This is an attack not just on Paris, it's an attack not just on the people of France, but this is an attack on all of humanity and the universal values that we share.

We stand prepared and ready to provide whatever assistance that the government and the people of France need to respond. France is our oldest ally. The French people have stood shoulder to shoulder with the United States time and again. And we want to be very clear that we stand together with them in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

Paris itself represents the timeless values of human progress. Those who think that they can terrorize the people of France or the values that they stand for are wrong. The American people draw strength from the French people's commitment to life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness. We are reminded in this time of tragedy that the bonds of liberté and égalité and fraternité are not only values that the French people care so deeply about, but they are values that we share. And those values are going to endure far beyond any act of terrorism or the hateful vision of those who perpetrated the crimes this evening.

We're going to do whatever it takes to work with the French people and with nations around the world to bring these terrorists to justice, and to go after any terrorist networks that go after our people.

We don't yet know all the details of what has happened. We have been in contact with French officials to communicate our deepest condolences to the families of those who have been killed, to offer our prayers and thoughts to those who have been wounded. We have offered our full support to them. The situation is still unfolding. I've chosen not to call President Hollande at this time, because my expectation is that he's very busy at the moment. I actually, by coincidence, was talking to him earlier today in preparation for the G20 meeting. But I am confident that I'll be in direct communications with him in the next few days, and we'll be coordinating in any ways that they think are helpful in the investigation of what's happened.

This is a heartbreaking situation. And obviously those of us here in the United States know what it's like. We've gone through these kinds of episodes ourselves. And whenever these kinds of attacks happened, we've always been able to count on the French people to stand with us. They have been an extraordinary counterterrorism partner, and we intend to be there with them in that same fashion.

I'm sure that in the days ahead we'll learn more about exactly what happened, and my teams will make sure that we are in communication with the press to provide you accurate information. I don't want to speculate at this point in terms of who was responsible for this. It appears that there may still be live activity and dangers that are taking place as we speak. And so until we know from French officials that the situation is under control, and we have for more information about it, I don't want to speculate.

  Thank you very much.

The Person I Admire Most There are quite a few people that I admire greatly, but the one that comes first on my list is Abraham Lincoln, the great American emancipator. Although he was born poor, he worked hard and honestly, and eventually became President of the

A part from the many fine qualities that Lincoln had, I admire him most because he dared to do what he thought was right at a time when his beliefs were very unpopular with many people. He also had infinite patience and tolerance for those who disagreed with him, and bore their discourtesy toward him with admirable restraint. He also had the manliness to forgive his opponents. When the Civil War ended, he treated his erstwhile enemies with great generosity. The words which are carved on the walls of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. were taken from his famous Second Inaugural Address and begin with he phrases which I shall never forget: “With malice toward none, with charity for all…”

Everytime I am asked what I want to do in the future. I think a minute and say being a doctor is my dream job.

Doctor is an other kind of artist who does human art by fighting with diseases and making people feel good. I think it is a pleasure to try my best to bring happiness to others. It is a feeling of pride and I am fond of it. In modern life, a mass of people work day and night to seek wealth and as a result they ignore their health. It is known that strong body is a foundation of beatific life. I dreamed to be an excellent doctor who can help them have a right to enjoy life again. Curing people is a doctor's holy responsibility.

Being a doctor is my dream job, now I should study hard to gain more knowledge to reach my goal.

I received a devastating blow to my self'confidence in the first interview of my college years. I applied to be a host in our Student Acting Troupe and felt confident that I would be accepted. But one of the panel members told me: “You seem inadequate and you are a little vertically'challenged.” My life has never been the same since. I used bigger heels to complement my height and psychological maneuvers and tricks to hide my lack of confidence. But no matter how hard I tried to look the part, there was still something missing. As president of English Club, I organized the rehearsal of Snow White for an English party. Unfortunately, we could not find an actor to be the last dwarf. It had to be someone who was humorous by nature and fluent in English. Suddenly, all eyes turned to me, and I knew I would have to be the dwarf. To my great surprise and delight, once on stage, I was totally absorbed in the performance and my humorous nature was put to full use. As the dwarf, I was a big hit.

Yes, each of us is only one among millions of others, but each of us is an individual and each of us is unique. Cultivating our individuality will transform our lives, making of them a kaleidoscope of new colors and textures.

How to Survive Culture Shock (1)

When you are preparing for your college adventures abroad , it’s easy enough to make sure you get all the right forms filled out ,have your textbooks waiting for you at the other end ,but how do you prepare for the adjustment to a new place? Especially, how to survive culture shock?

If your language is not the main language spoken, make sure you take some classes in the local language before you go .Phrase books are all very well, but listening is the best way to learn. Audiotapes are a good alternative.

Any travel agent can dell you what the average rainfall will be and where the best tourist destinations are, but that doesn’t help much. Ask the travel agent for any less tourist-oriented information and check libraries and bookstores. Make sure you pack toiletries, medicines ,and personal items before you leave. Sure, you can find a lot of things in the new country, but the sound of a familiar voice. When you get on the plane, set your watch to the new time zone and try and place yourself in if .Drink plenty of water because flying dehydrates you .Stretch your legs and get some sleep. Make sure you know where your consulate office is in case of emergencies. If you don’t know, ask airport staff, university staff or use a telephone book ,but find it before you need it .

Ladies and Gentlemen , Good afternoon! I?mvery glad to stand here and gi英语语法ve you a shortspeech today my topic is“youth” I hope you will likeit , and found the importance in your youth so that more cherishit

First I want to ask you some questions: 1、 Do you know what isyouth? 2、 How do you master your youth?

  Youth

Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind it is notrosy cheeks , red lips and supple knees, it is a matter of theemotions : it is the freshness it is the freshness of the deepsprings of life

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage overtimidity of the appetite , for adventure over the love of easeThis often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20 Nobodygrows old merely by a number of years We grow old by desertingour ideals

Years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles thesoul Worry , fear , self –distrust bows theheart and turns the spirit back to dust

Whether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being?s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailingchildlike appetite of what?s next and the joy ofthe game of living In the center of your heart and my heartthere?s a wireless station : so long as itreceives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power frommen and from the infinite, so long as you are young

When the aerials are down , and your spirit is covered withsnows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old, even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch wes ofoptimism , there is hope you may die young at 80That?s all ! Thank you!

Hi,everyone.Today my topic is about environmental protection.

Today the quality of our natural environment has become an important issue. The world population is rising so quickly that the world has become too crowded.

We are using up our natural resources and at the same time polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we continue to do this, life on earth cannot survive.

Pollution has been a serious problem for a certain time around the world. There are many causes for it. Transportation is the main factor of pollution. When the waste gas from cars is released, the air is polluted. People breathing in the polluted air can develop respiratory disease. Another factor is that

people throw their garbage everywhere. All kinds of garbage not only spoil the splendid environment, but also cause environmental pollution. Wastewater from factories is also poured into rivers and this causes water pollution

Concerned people have made some progress in environmental protection. Governments of many countries have established laws to protect the air, forests and sea resources and to stop environmental pollution.

Still more measures should be taken to solve environmental problems. People should be further educated to recognize the importance of the problems, to use modern methods of birth control, to conserve our natural resources and recycle our products. We are sure that we can have a better and cleaner place in the future.

OK,we have known that we can prevent pollution if everyone makes the efforts. So,let’s do it now . That's it.Thank you everyone!

In this symposium, better is it to only sit in silence. To express one's feelings as the end draws near is too intimate a task. That I would mention only one thought that comes to me as a listener-in: the riders in a race do not stop short when they reach the goal, there is a little finishing canter before coming to a standstill, there is time to hear the kind voice of friends, and to say to oneself, the work is done. But just as one says that, the answer comes, the race is over, but the work never is done while the power to work remains. The canter that brings you to a standstill need not be only coming to rest; it cannot be while you still live. But to live is to function, that is all there is in living. So I end with a land from a Latin voice: death, death, clutches my ear, and says, live, I am coming.--By Oliver Wendell Holmes
