  听力原文:

  (Text 1)

W: Flight 331 is being announced. I'd better be on my way.

Goodbye. Thanks for all your kind hospitality.

M: You are welcome. Happy landing.

  (Text 2)

M: There are only 13 chairs for 14 of us.

W: Why not find another, then?

  (Text 3)

W: Are you glad that you came to Washington?

M: Yes, indeed, I'd considered going to New York or Boston.

But I've never regretted my decision.

  (Text 4)

M: How about my food? I've been sitting here for almost half

  an hour.

W: I'm sorry, sir. It must be ready by now.

  (Text 5)

W: I hear there is a good Japanese restaurant nearby. Would

you like to go there for lunch?

M: Yes, it is my treat this time.

  (Text 6)

W: Where did you say you found your schoolbag?

M: It was lying under a tree between the language lab and the

  library building.

W: How do you like this bag?

M: Yah! It's strong and wonderfully designed.

  W: How much is it?

  M: 69 dollars and 50 cents.

  W: I'll take one tomorrow. Oh. It's 6:30. I know the station

gives the news every hour on the hour, but I don't know

  when they announce the weather.

M: Ten minutes to and ten minutes after the hour.

  W: I see.

  (Text 7)

M: Excuse me, how can I get to the bank? Bank of America; I

mean. I don't know the way.

W: Well, go straight ahead till you see a supermarket. The bank

is just at the other side of the street.

M: Is it far from here?

W: Let me see, Er, it's 4 blocks away. Not very far, not very

  near.

M: Can I take a bus or something?

W: You may take Bus No. 104 or a street car B-201, 4 stops by

bus and 3 stops by street car.

M: But where can I take the street car?

W: Oh, the stop is just over there, at the bookstore. See?

  M: Many thanks.

  W: You're welcome.

  (Text 8)

W: How is your mother feeling these days?

M: Much better, thanks. She'll be back home in a few days.

W: That's wonderful. When will you be back on your job?

M: I think I need a week to take care of her and do some

  cleaning for her coming home.

W: Why don't you hire someone to do it? In this case, you

cannot only do your job, but also have more free time.

M: Yes, I know it. But I'm really worried about my mother. She

W: You're a kind and thoughtful man. I admire you very much.

  M: I'm just a very normal son.

  (Text 9)

W: Do you collect cola cans, Steve?

M: No. Why do you ask?

W: You have so many empty cans here.

M: Well, my mum wants me to keep all the cans, so that we can

  sell them after a while.

W: Aha, you are going to make a millionaire of yourself sooner

or later with all those cans.

M: You bet I will. Well, that's not the point. The point is we separate reusable things from other rubbish. We have to pay the dustman for dealing with rubbish, but if we sell him these cans and other reusable material we pay less.

W: That sounds a clever idea. Now what are reused in China?

M: Metal, plastic, paper, books and the like.

W: Just as we do back home in the States.

M: And to avoid waste, the government is limiting the production of goods that can be used only once, such as bamboo chopsticks. For example, all the fast food boxes should be made of paper instead of non-reusable material.

W: That will surely be helpful for a clean environment.

  (Text 10)

I wasn't too fond of the lecture classes of 400 students in my general courses. Halfway through my second term, when I was considering whether or not to come back in the fall, I went on the internet and came across AmeriCorps. Then I joined the organization. And that was what I did last school year. I worked on making roads, building a house, serving as a teacher's assistant, and working as a camp officer in several projects in South Carolina and Florida. It's been a great experience. And I've almost learned more than what I could have in college. Since I didn't really want to be at that school and I wasn't interested in my major anyway, I think this was better for me. After 1,700 hours of service, I received 4,750 dollars. I can use that to pay off the money I borrowed from the banks or for what I need when I go back to school this fall at Columbus State in Ohio. Classes are smaller there, and I'll be majoring in German education. After working with the kids, now I know I want to be a teacher.
