　　1. 表示“地方”，后接不及物动词的不定式作定语时，可以不用介词。如：

　　由于以上原因，后接定语从句时，有时也可将关系副词 where改为 that 或省略，或将其后有关介词省略。如：

　　This is the place (where) we met yesterday. 这就是我们昨天碰头的'地方。

　　He talked to me about all the places she had been (to). 他给我谈起了她去过的所有地方。

　　但若不是 place 而是其他名词，则不能省略其后必用的介词。

　　误：He has no room to live.(应在live后加in)

　　误：There is no room to sleep.(应在sleep后加in)

　　2. 比较 in place of 和 take the place of：两者均可以表示“代替”，前者为介词短语，而后者为动词短语。如：

　　Who is here in place of the manager? 谁在这里代理经理?

　　Who will take the place of the manager? 谁将代替经理?

　　3. 比较 take place 和 take the place of：前者意为“发生”(不及物，不能跟有宾语，也不能有被动语态)，后者意为“代替”。如：

　　Great changes have taken place in my hometown since 1978. 1978 年以来我的家乡发生了巨大的变化。
