一、正确使用英文
不论教授们的学识多么渊博，都要通过为申请者撰写留学推荐信，以合理的表达方式向考官们展现申请者的才能。也就是说连接着国内教授和国外考官的唯一渠道就是文字。如果留学推荐信写的一塌糊涂，甚至出现用词不准确、语法错误等低级失误，给人家的第一印象就是你的英语水平不过硬，也就不会重视这封信了。
二、全面的、毫无保留的展示申请者的才能
考官们在申请者的推荐信中最想看的是申请者的专业背景程度。包括：对专业知识的掌握程度、是否有相关的工作经历、在申请专业上有突出成绩和建树。教授们请注意，在具体的叙述中不要直截了当的写出来，要表达出申请者为什么要选择该专业、申请者的工作到底是怎样的、申请者是怎样取得的成绩等，要注重过程的描写，这样才会让考官觉得真实自然。
