Mustangs has a negative influence on rangeland

The writer and the speakerhave a debate on Mustangs. The writer believes that it will have a negativeinfluence on rangeland, which is opposed by the following lecture.

First, the writer claims thatthe Mustangs will overgraze grass, thus making it expose to rain. Wind wouldcarry the topsoil. While the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle, accordingto him/her, Indeed the Mustangs would graze grass, but they only eat top ofplant, so grass will grow again. Besides, fertilizer provided by Mustangs wouldaid plants’ growth.

Secondly, the passage statesthat the land has carrying capacity.. However, the speaker casts doubt on thisopinion by saying that Horses hunt sheep, so the sheep’s population will bereduced. It will not exceed carrying capacity.

Last, the writer argues that Mustangswill degrade the water quality. Therefore, the juvenile fish can not survive. Bycontrast, in accordance with the speaker, this claim does not hold water. It isnot caused by Mustangs. There were beavers once. Building dam is good for youngfish. However, people think that beavers will damage environment, thus killingthem. Without beavers, young fish can not survive.

whether Brendan Reached North America in the sixth century

The writer and the speaker have a debate on whether Brendan Reached North America in the sixth century. The writer puts forward three theories, which are opposed by the following lecture.

First, the writer claims that many references confirm that Brendan had Reached North America. While the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle, according to him/her, references are not so accurate, thus leading to misunderstanding. Those burning hills were not volcanoes; instead, people liked setting fire on hills at that time.

Secondly, the passage states that shipbuilding technologies at that time were advanced enough for people to reach North America. However, the speaker casts doubt on this opinion by saying that the ship made by scientists is much larger and carried more sailors than Brendan’s one.

Last, the writer argues that there were some markings, which were similar to Irish language, on the rock. By contrast, in accordance with the speaker, this claim does not hold water. the markings contain pictures, like sun and tree. In fact, they were carved on the rock by native Americans.

where did the mammal in Madagascar came from?

In the lecture, the professor refutes against the view raised in the reading that the ancestor mammals in Madagascar were from Africa by crossing the sea.

Firstly, the reading holds that the situation where mammals can cross the ocean is very accidental, except in the extreme weather conditions such as tempest, which is still a harsh suffering for the animals to survive. Thus, the group migration is more impossible. However, the professor refutes that it is found that all the animals in Madagascar only have four ancestors dating back to 40 million years ago, which offers them sufficient time and opportunities to flow to Madagascar.

Secondly, the reading claims that the direction of ocean current near the Africa coast is not towards Madagascar. The floating mammals will be carried away from Madagascar by the current. But the professor disagrees with this by suggesting that the direction of the current 40 million years ago was different from that of now. Besides, the location of Africa and Madagascar is also changed now. So it is very likely that the ocean current near the Africa coast can carry the animals towards Madagascar.

Finally, in the reading passage, it indicates that the distance between Africa and Madagascar is very faraway, so the time that it takes to float to Madagascar is very long, which means the animals are prone to starve to death and die of thirst due to lack of freshwater. In contrast, the professor holds mammals can use torpor when they need to rest, they do not need to drink or eat when they are in the torpor with low rate of metabolism.

  Lemur 的'数量减少的对策

The reading passage points out three countermeasures to prevent the decreasing number of Lemur. The professor’s lecture deals with the same issue. However, he thinks that the strategies mentioned by author are unfeasible, which contradicts what the reading states.

First, in terms of filling up the fragment of forest, the professor argues in the lecture that such practice would cost a huge amount of manpower and resources. Additionally, professor indicates that lemur seldom goes to the edge since there are a lot of predators outside.

Moreover, professor cast doubt on the measure of checking airport and seaport to prevent illegal lemur sales. Then professor proves that this claim is indefensible by pointing out that lemurs are served as a kind of food in many regions and it is impossible to check all these places where illegal sales still exist secretly.

Finally, the professor asserts that it is unrealistic to keep lemur in the zoo or laboratory. Then he supports this point with the fact that lemurs are food snob who need certain proportion of fruits per day. In other words, it is difficult to put them together with other diet species.
