  A New Day

英语励志文章

The sun has begun to set and I hang up the smile I’ve worn all day, though I will make sure it is the first thing I put back on in the morning just in case it is &“that day.” I want her to see me at my very best.

I do the normal routine, eat dinner, clean the house, write—the usual stuff. And then I lay down hoping to fall asleep quickly so my new day will hurry up and arrive. A new day with a brand new sun. But as I lay there and wait for the world to turn half way around,I think about her. And sometimes I smile, and sometimes that smile will turn into asnicker, and then often that snicker will turn into a burst of laughter.

And then there are times I get that lump in my throat and that tight feeling in my chest, and sometimes that feeling overwhelms me and begins to turn into a tear, and often that tear multiplies itself and I can no longer fight the feeling and I lose the battle. Then somehow through either the joy or the sadness I drift and find myself asleep. Then the dreams begin and keep me pany until my new day arrives.

When I awake it’s with such excitement because I tell myself this could be the day that every other day has led up to and the first day of the rest of my life. I quickly don my smile because I do so want her to see me at my very best. Then I look out the window because, even though I know it’s dawn,I still have to confirm I’ve been given another chance to find her.

And there it is…the sun, even when it’s cloudy; somehow I still see it. And it smiles at me and I say “Thank you,” and I smile back.

Then I ask myself,&“Is this the day?” And the excitement rushes over me again. And then I ask myself “Where’s it going to be?”

Maybe it’ll be at the water fountain, and, unexpectedly, there I’ll find her,and much more than my thirst will be quenched. Maybe it’ll be at the grocery store and there she’ll appear as I’m picking out fruit, and she’ll show me the difference between fresh and spoiled. Then, from that moment, nothing that I eat will ever taste the same because she’ll bring out the simplest beauties in everything I see, taste, smell, hear,or touch.

Or maybe today will be the day when my angel brings an item

up to the cash register without its price tag. And as I wait behind this angel with all the frustrated people who are in such a hurry with their busy lives,I will find myself with such blessed extra time. Just enough time to start a conversation with this beautiful vision standing in front of me that I might not otherwise have noticed, but, because of a &“price check on register 5,” I was able to find her.

Thank you for the sun, which began my new day. Thank you for granting me the faith when I arose this morning that I would find her in this new day. But most of all, thank you for me not having to ever wait on another sunrise because whenever I want to see it,I will look at her and there it shall always be,in her eyes; she will forever hold it for me.

She is my sunrise,my dawn,my new day.

  Pinkie victory over big hammer

The world no.1 salesman was asked to share his secret of success upon his retirement. 2,500 salesmen came to listen to his speech. He set a very big iron ball and a big hammer on the stage.

Then he asked,“Who can move this iron ball?” one person in the audience said,“I want to try.” He went on the stage and knocked at the big iron ball once. It didn’t budge. Then came more men. The iron ball still didn’t move.

At this time the speaker said,“Now I teach you the secret.” He then poked the iron ball every 5 seconds by his pinkie no matter how the audience reacted. The iron ball began to move a little after 40miutes. But the iron ball swung fiercely after 50 minutes.

He then asked,“Who can stop the iron ball on the stage?” the people down the stage all said it couldn’t be done. The world no.1 salesman said,“This is my secret of success. I visit customers everyday until they give in. you see they just can’t block me when I succeed.”

  Dear I,Where Are You?

Everything about my future was ambiguously assumed. I would get into debt by going to college, then I would be forced to get a job to pay off that debt, while still getting into more and more debt by buying a house and a car. It seemed like a never-ending cycle that had no place for the possibility of a dream.

I want more—but not necessarily in the material sense of personal wealth and success. I want more out of life. I want a passion,a conceptual dream that wouldn’t let me sleep out of pure excitement. I want to spring out of bed in the morning, rain or shine, and have that zest for life that seemed so intrinsic in early childhood.

We all have a dream. It might be explicitly defined or just a vague idea, but most of us are so stuck in the muck of insecurity and self-doubt that we just dismiss it as unrealistic or too difficult to pursue.

We bee so fortable with the life that has been planned out for us by our parents, teachers, traditions, and societal norms that we feel that it’s stupid and unsafe to risk losing it for the small hope of achieving something that is more fulfilling.

“The policy of being too cautious is the greatest risk of all.” ~Jawaharlal Nehru

Taking a risk is still a risk. We can and will fail. Possibly many many many times. But that is what makes it exciting for me. That uncertainty can be viewed negatively,or it can empower us.

Failing is what makes us grow,it makes us stronger and more resilient to the aspects of life we have no control over. The fear of failure, although,is what makes us stagnant and sad. So even though I couldn’t see the future as clearly as before,I took the plunge in hopes that in the depths of fear and failure,I would e out feeling more alive than ever before.

If you feel lost, just take a deep breath and realize that being lost can be turning point of finding out who you truly are,and what you truly want to do.

What is your direction indicator of ascended.

One windy spring day,I observed young people having fun using the wind to fly their kites. Multicolored creations of varying shapes and sizes filled the skies like beautiful birds darting and dancing. As the strong winds gusted against the kites,a string kept them in check.

Instead of blowing away with the wind, they arose against it to achieve great heights. They shook and pulled, but the restraining string and the cumbersome tail kept them in tow, facing upward and against the wind. As the kites struggled and trembled against the string, they seemed to say,&“Let me go! Let me go! I want to be free!” They soared beautifully even as they fought the restriction of the string. Finally, one of the kites succeeded in breaking loose. &“Free at last,” it seemed to say. &“Free to fly with the wind.”

Yet freedom from restraint simply put it at the mercy of an unsympathetic breeze. It fluttered ungracefully to the ground and landed in a tangled mass of weeds and string against a dead bush. &“Free at last” free to lie powerless in the dirt,to be blown helplessly along the ground, and to lodge lifeless against the first obstruction.

How much like kites we sometimes are. The Heaven gives us adversity and restrictions, rules to follow from which we can grow and gain strength. Restraint is a necessary counterpart to the winds of opposition. Some of us tug at the rules so hard that we never soar to reach the heights we might have obtained. We keep part of the mandment and never rise high enough to get our tails off the ground.

Let us each rise to the great heights, recognizing that some of the restraints that we may chafe under are actually the steadying force that helps us ascend and achieve.

  Just for today

Just for today I will try to live through this day only and not tackle my whole life problem at once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

Just for today I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be."

Just for today I will adjust myself to what is,and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my "luck" as it es.

Just for today I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study. I will learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration.

Just for today I will exercise my soul in three ways. I will do somebody a good turn and not get found out: If anybody knows of it,it will not count. I will do at least two things I don't want to do—just for exercise. I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt: they may be hurt, but today I will not show it.

Just for today I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress beingly, talk low,act courteously, criticize not one bit,and try not to improve or regulate anybody but myself.

Just for today I will have a program,I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests: hurry and indecision.

Just for today I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. During this half hour, sometime,I will try to get a better perspective of my life.

Just for today I will be unafraid. Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful, and to believe that as I give to the world,so the world will give to me.
