Letters of recommendation are a very important part of the application process. As colleges become more and more sought out from the increasing number of applicants each year, the need to stand out from the competition is also increasing. Below we will provide helpful information on how to write a college recommendation as well as advice for tailoring each letter.

A high school transcript can help tell an admissions office a lot about a candidate, but a college recommendation letter provides an opportunity for them to see the whole person. While recommendation letters are never a bad idea to include in the application, even if the college does not require one, many colleges do necessitate the inclusion of one. Here is some advice to keep in mind when writing a college recommendation letter:

Know the candidate - it may sound obvious, but it is important that you know the candidate well. After all, how can you write a college recommendation letter for a someone you know little about? Recommendations written for candidates with a vague familiarity are often identifiable and can do more harm than good.

How you know the candidate - when you write a college recommendation letter, make sure to include how you know the candidate as well as the length of time you have known that person.

Provide relevant information - be sure to find out the purpose of the recommendation so as to provide relevant information about the candidate and his or her specific qualifications. If the recommendation is to supplement an application, discuss how that person is an appropriate candidate for the college he or she is applying to. Despite its purpose, however, the overall goal of a college recommendation letter is to attest to the capabilities and character of the candidate.

Obtain a rsum - another tip on how to write a collage recommendation letter is to first obtain the student's rsum with a listing of his or her GPA, activities, awards, leadership roles, community service, employment experience and special skills. The more information you have about a particular candidate, the more constructive your recommendation can be.

Personalize the letter - to help make the letter more personal, before writing a college recommendation letter, it is important to determine the person to whom the letter should be addressed. If the student is unaware of the name, the letter may begin "Dear Selection Committee."

Proofread the letter - one of the most important tips on how to write a college recommendation letter is making sure to proofread it when finished. A letter containing grammatical errors will appear unprofessional and may leave a negative impression.

Mailing the letter - establish with the student whether the recommendation letter must be mailed in an official envelope from your institution, or if it can be included with the application. If it is to accompany the application, return the letter to the candidate in a sealed envelope.

Determine the deadline - double-check with the student as to the deadline of the college recommendation letter. Ideally, you will be given an adequate amount of time to complete a positive, detailed letter, however, the most important detail is that it is received before the application deadline.

Save the letter - when you have finished writing a recommendation, be sure to save it in order to help make writing the next college recommendation letter easier. The student will likely be applying to more than one school and may ask that you write a separate recommendation for each one. Although it is important that each letter is tailored to the application at hand, select information can be recycled for multiple letters. It is more convenient to tailor the original passage than to repetitively recollect the advice on how to write a college recommendation.

  What Colleges Really Want

Colleges place a large emphasis on a student's academic ability because what is accomplished in high school is the strongest predictor of their academic success in college. What colleges really want, however, is a win-win situation. They want to admit students who will thrive at their institution, not only for the student's benefit, but for their own as well. As more and more students become college-bound, colleges and universities will become increasingly selective, placing more emphasis on the ability to know how to write a college recommendation letter.

As a teacher, counselor, employer or personal acquaintance of a college-bound teen, you may at some point receive a request for help in writing a college recommendation letter. These students are not only placing their trust in you, they are putting you in the unique position to make an impact on whether or not they are admitted to their college of choice. Following this advice on how to write a college recommendation will help to ensure a professional letter and give your candidate a greater likelihood of being accepted into his or her college of choice.

Program: Teenager & Juvenile Developmental Psychology

In my undergraduate program, I received education across two fields—a degree program in law at the Law School of x University and a degree program in psychology at x University. My rigorous academic trainings across those two fields have given me necessary qualifications for pursuing a more advanced program either in psychology or in law, endowing me with a unique advantage in interdisciplinary knowledge.

As far as I am concerned, law and psychology are reciprocal. They all pertain to human behavior. As a matter of fact, my thesis in law, entitled “ xX “ explores juvenile delinquency by examining the complicated psychological factors of the younger generation of China in family, school and neighborhood settings. However, there are essential differences between them. In terms of the causal relationships of human behavior, law is primarily concerned with the treatment of the consequences of human behavior while psychology probes into the motivations that cause people to act as they do. In the framework of human relations, law aims at orderly and well-regulated social relationship while psychology, with its interventions into the process of human development, seeks to facilitate the healthy development of the individuals.

While law and psychology are both indispensable to the proper functioning of our society, when it comes to making a choice between those two fields in which to pursue a graduate program, I decide to opt for a program in Developmental Psychology. My decision is motivated by the fact that law can only deal with the aftermath of human behavior whereas psychology can provide preventive measures against possible negative human behavior. Child & adolescent psychology, a field I am interested in, may facilitate the development of healthy personality structure that may enable children and adolescents interact with the society in a harmonious manner.

I have received sound academic trainings that a student of psychology can expect in China, excelling particularly in Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Experimental Psychology and other core courses, all of which have imparted to me the necessary theoretical knowledge. My 87/100 GPA in Psychology has made me the top student in my class and the winner of a series of the university’s top-level scholarships. As an undergraduate, I have attempted at some tentative research by submitting essays and research papers to provincial-level and university-level journals (please refer to my Resume). In performing those researches, I find that I have benefited considerably from my solid mathematics foundation and the related methodology—my score for the Advanced Mathematics course is 98/100 while the SPSS was nearly full mark. I have mastered important statistical and quantitative methods, computer programming and LISREL with much facility and I excel in designing experiments and preparing questionnaires.

I started to perform formal academic research at the Developmental Psychology Lab in x University two years by working as a research assistant to Prof. x, a leading Chinese scholar on social development in childhood and adolescence and peer relations. By focusing on the peer relations, social cognition, social self-concept, attributions, and past social experiences, I completed a full-length research paper x, which became a poster presentation at the x. My research indicates that in addition to maintaining an appropriate level of social self-concept and optimistic attributional style, it is essentially worthwhile to emphasize another two strategies to improve the positive peer nominations: to pay special attention to the attributions to negative events of the life, and to attribute social popularity or success to some stable causes. Based on my distinguished academic performance, I attended the x and the x.

Off campus, I have worked as a social worker offering psychological consulting for the “No Worry Teenagers” column for the authoritative journal x, dealing with the problems concerning interpersonal relations and social cognition of adolescents and young adults. This experience allowed me to gain insight into many important aspects of the mental lives of this group of people beyond the mere statistical data. However, it is a regret that my knowledge is insufficient to offer adequate consulting service to my audience of such diverse backgrounds. This fact reveals to me the need to undertake more advanced studies to improve my professional competence.

I am strongly interested in the developmental psychology of adolescents because by helping adolescents build up a healthy psychology that may enable them to successfully integrate into the competitive world of adults, hence fewer social problems could be created. In my proposed program, I would like to concentrate on the following subjects: social cognitive and social-emotional development in childhood and adolescence; peer relations and family relations and their influence on development; resilience in high risk settings; development of self-esteem; gender differences and similarities, and research methods. The University of x’s graduate education is very strong in those fields. Your faculty consists of distinguished professors who come from leading universities and have made important research achievements. Your program offers students a total of 14 labs, among which Multiple Identities and Interpersonal Interactions Lab is most relevant to my study. I expect that your Ph.D. program can give me instruction in the fundamental theories and knowledge of developmental psychology and also give me rigorous training in planning, conducting and evaluating research. I would like to identify Prof.x as my potential advisor, whose research interests covers a wide spectrum, including most of the fields I am interested in.

To me, psychology means care, psychological research is to find out how to care and psychological service is to offer the care. My career objective is to develop into a research-oriented professor who can perform substantial research on adolescent psychology. I will study those features of psychology that Chinese adolescents share with their x counterparts as China is under heavy influences of x culture. But I would also examine the role of traditional Chinese culture in shaping the psychology of Chinese adolescents. Apart from my professional activities, I will continue to offer voluntary, non-profit consulting services to those who are in need. Adolescent psychological consulting is only of recent origin and much is to be improved. My prospective x education will enable me to make important contributions in this regard.

  Applied Program: Wireless Telecommunications

On August 27, 2002, at the Central Institute of the Datang Telecom Technology and Industry Group based in Beijing, a young woman, full of energy and self-confidence, was giving a presentation entitled “The Design of the Switching Numerical Method of the Radio Resource Management (RRM) Strategy in TD-SCDMA, and the Testing of Its Simulated Systems,” which received rapt attention and high remarks from all the experts in Computer and Telecommunications who attended the meeting. That woman was I. At present, TD-SCDMA, W-CDMA, and CDMA 2000 are considered the main technological standards in the third generation of the world’s technological development in mobile telecommunications. And the design of a switching computation method for the RRM Strategy is a key element and technological crux for the TD-SCDMA technology. In retrospection, I found that it was my great enthusiasm for mobile telecommunications, and my persistent pursuit of accuracy and perfection that have helped me win accolades from colleagues and experts.

In China, since the TD-SCDMA uses a smart antenna, it makes a demand for a finer research on the computation method for the RRM Strategy, in areas such as PC, DCA, and HC. To me, a new starter in the company, it was a real challenge. Since the research team was new, it lacked engineering data and practical experience, although the equipment of the lab was quite advanced. It was only after much library research, thinking, and consultation with experts did I find a RRM computation method suitable for a smart antenna. Because a smart antenna has its advantages of a more accurate VE locating and reduced searching areas, this computation method effectively lowers the complexity of the switching process and its failure rate. During the time when I worked for the project, I often stayed up several days in a roll to perfect a lab test. But I also derived an enormous sense of satisfaction and fulfillment after overcoming obstacles, which more than compensated the pains and difficulties that I had to go through.

The rapid development of mobile telecommunication technology places a high demand on professionals working in this field. To a certain extent, it has to be a labor of love. My keen interest in mobile telecommunications emanated from the concept of “personal communication.” During my undergraduate years at the Northwest University of Industry, I spent much of my spare time browsing over professional publications and journals, to keep myself abreast of current developments. The concept of “personal communication” I encountered during this process impressed me immensely. A system of “personal communication” is one that allows the user to communicate at anytime, anyplace, to anyone, and in any way. It painted such a beautiful of picture of a future society that I became fully convinced that it is a subject well worth my lifelong pursuit. This was why I chose Mobile Telecommunications as my area of specialization in the graduate program. As a graduate student, I completed several research projects independently and successfully, including, for instance, “Turbo Code and the Application of Its Coding Concept.” In short frame conditions, the Turbo Code, with its improved application in engineering, seems to have a bright future in real-time voice-data service (Please see the attached article). After completing my graduate degree, I entered Datang Group, a pioneer in China’s software development. Here I did software design for the switch control template used at the RNC equipment for the TD-SCDMA system, and developed a switching computation method for the RRM Strategy. I went through the entire process of software design for the switch control template for the RNC equipment, from topic analysis to the project outline and then to actual program writing.

The present development of telecommunication technology indicates that the smart antenna, software radio, and the transmission technology of subline下行high-speed subdivided exchange data (下行高速分组交换数据传输技术) are key technologies for today’s mobile telecommunications. Software radio, in particular, has attracted much public attention. The use of DSP and software to solve the problem of wireless interfaces of diverse standards on a public hardware platform has become a major issue pursued by many professionals in our field. I too hope to make my own contribution to the technological development in this area. In the next few years, the traditional concept of using chips to build wireless equipment for mobile telecommunication will be seriously challenged. In recent years, the technologies and standards of the third generation of mobile telecommunication have been rapidly updated. Software radio, I believe, will be the future of our trade.

My desire to know more about computer engineering prompted me to rise above my present conditions. The United States, as technological superpower, have first-rate teaching faculty and research facilities in the world. Its ideological openness and tolerance make a sharp contrast to Chinese culture, which tends to value tradition rather than innovation. Wireless telecommunication may be said to be one of the newest research areas, and it is new concepts and new vision that give life to the industry. I believe that in the fine research environment in the United States, I will be able to make “shortcuts” in attaining my academic and career goals.

I would like to apply for admission to the Center for Wireless Telecommunications of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. As the most prestigious research institute in Wireless Telecommunications, the Center has a large number of famed scholars and professionals dedicated to the theoretic research of Wireless Telecommunications. Meanwhile, it maintains close contact with the telecommunication industry, and in this way can test the theory in practical experimentation, which in turn promotes theoretic research. It is an ideal place for me to fully develop my research potential.

I look forward to finding a teaching position at college level in China after completing my graduate education, which will allow me to continue my research work in Wireless Telecommunications. I will impart my theoretic and practical knowledge to my students, and hope that this will benefit China’s wireless telecommunication industry, and society at large. I will make every effort to make the idea of “personal communication” a reality.

Due to the comprehensiveness of China’s “reform and open” policies, economicsplays an increasingly important role in the development of its global position.Though more and more companies built, management of companies cannot catch upwith the development of the companies. Management is a burgeoning field inChina, so I hope I can acquire more modern knowledge on management inEngland.

The roots of my strong interest in business can be traced back to mychildhood. My father was among the first of China’s new breed of modernentrepreneurs. As a young girl, it was inspirational hearing about his businessventures, and meeting the varied and interesting circle of entrepreneurs. Mymother was also involved in business as an accountant, helping him with simplecalculations. And so it was early in my life that I hoped I, also, would somedaybe able to enter the realm of business.

With the time of growing up, I preferred reading books to satisfy mycuriosity. I never ceased to contemplate over the questions I encountered.Subjects on business and management became a special fascination to me and myknowledge of psychology as well as interest in this field was increasingrapidly.

As a high school student in China, I had to concentrate on the CollegeEntrance Examination (CEE), even so, books not related to the exams were neverexcluded from my life. Unfortunately when sitting in the exam in June, 20x, Iwas so nervous that I didn’t score well in the CEE exam. I enrolled in thedepartment of Computer Science in Zhejiang College of Traditional ChineseMedicine. Any attempt to persuade myself to focus on my major turned out to be afailure at the beginning of my college life. After several terms, I realizedthat I would never be interested in being a programmer or an engineer. At thatmoment, I lost my direction and objectives.

My persistence in reading saved me from the dark situation. As a matter offact, I enjoyed reading the books included Encyclopedia American, and some booksabout management by Peter F.Drucker. I began to notice something interesting:Why some companies can produce more than others? Why some company can sell morethan others? Why some companies can build up but others cannot when facing thesame difficulties?

With the questions in my mind, I started to read many relevant books. I waslucky to read the book “Jack: Straight from the Gut”by Jack Welch, in Which JohnA. Byrne makes a clear illustration that the management is important for acompany. When I was a junior, I ran a bookshop by myself near my school. Ishould manage not only the finance in the shop but also the employees in my shopeven made some strategies to enlarge the business in my shop to hold on the runthe shop. From this, my interpersonal skills and the capacity in business hasbeen greatly developed, definitely I was increasingly interested in what I wasdoing. By December, 20x, I had finally determined to take business managementas my career instead of IT. To accumulate more relevant knowledge, I strived togain more practical work experience in some big companies.

Fortunately, as a senior, I began by conducting an internship in theArchitecture Company in Zhejiang Province. Over six months, I worked as anassistant of the manager to harmonize the relationship between the differentdepartments in this company and to draft some management system, which broadenedmy perspective of management conditions and business performance in differentindustries. The experience showed me that management is much more important thanthat of I thought in big companies. After graduation, I continued my work inthis company. In May, 20x, the company offered me an opportunity to participatein an training program held by a famous management school. Through in-depthdiscussions with teachers and students in the classes, they all encouraged me topursue my future career in management field because of my intellectual abilityand the brand new ideas I mentioned.

During the short period of training, I realized that pursuing a higher degreein management is a wise choice for me now. Lancaster, with its excellence inmanagement, represents the perfect fit for my needs. In your challengingenvironment, I can build the required foundation of knowledge related tomanagement to achieve my goals. I am firmly convinced that your admission willbe my first step of success. With this in mind, I hereby submit my application, and await your favorable reply.

I'M GOING RUNNING TODAY. I am not concerned about my calorie consumption forthe day,nor am I anxious to get in shape for the winter season. I just want togo running。

I used to dislike running. "If you don't win this game, you're all runningfive miles tomorrow," the field hockey coach used to warn, during those lastdays of October when the average temperature seemed to be decreasingexponentially. And so,occasionally,my grief-stricken team would run numerousmiserable laps around the fields. At the end of these excursions, our faces andlimbs would be numb, and we would all have developed those notorious flu-likesymptoms; but the running made us better in the long run,I suppose.Nevertheless,I counted down the days until the end of the field hockey season, vowing never to put on a pair of running shoes again. Then I surprised myself bysigning up for outdoor track in the second half of sophomore year. I was foolishto have believed that I could ever escape this insidious and magneticaddiction。

Anyone would have thought that I'd be off the team in a few days, but thelast week of January caught me splashing through puddles of melted ice, andFebruary winds nearly blew me off the track. I looked forward to practices thistime around,to the claps and the persistent cheers of my fellow trackies. I wasfeeling a "runner's high" spurred by the endorphins released by exercise. But toattribute my affinity for running solely to chemistry diminishes the personalimportance that running has for me。

I like running—in the cool shade of the towering oak trees, and in the warmsunlight spilling over the horizon, and in the drops of rain falling gently fromthe clouds. Certain things become clear to me when I'm running—only whilerunning did I realize that "hippopoxxxxxi" is possibly the funniest word in theEnglish language, and only while running did I realize that the travel sectionof The York Times does not necessarily provide an accurate depiction of theentire world. Running lends me precious moments to contemplate my life:whilerunning I find time to dream about changing the world,to think about recentdeath of a classmate,or to wonder about the secret to college admission。

Running is the awareness of hurdles between me and the finish line; runningis the desire to overcome them. Running is putting up with aches and pains, relishing the knowledge that,in the end,I will have built strength andendurance. Running is the instant clarity of vision with which I can see myfuture just one hundred yards in the distance; it is the understanding thatthese crucial steps will determine victory or defeat。

Running is not the most important thing in the world to me,but it is whatfulfills me when time permits. And right now, before the sun goes down,I liketo take advantage of the road that lies ahead。

Dear sir / madam:

Hello, my name is * *, * * * University teacher. I am also very pleased to recommend to you my students * * *, and believe that it can be a good completion of your master's courses in your school.

Ever since he entered the University, he has often shown maturity and stability. Since most of the students in the class are from other provinces and cities, the experience of leaving home for the first time makes it necessary for them to take a long time to adapt to the new environment. But I have noticed that, by contrast, * * * * adjusted quickly and actively involved in the new environment.

There is a big difference between the curriculum of the University and the middle school, and the emphasis is on the ability of self-study. Therefore, in freshman, sophomore, a lot of students have shown varying degrees of adaptation, do not know how to learn the University curriculum. However, * * students have a strong ability to adapt, quickly find out the key business management courses, in a very short time to master the learning methods, and other teachers said he is very strong ability to accept new knowledge, new knowledge that he'll be able to digest, can be understood.

It can be said that some of the students in the class is holding a very good college entrance examination scores into our school, and * * * by virtue of his strong self-learning ability and good learning methods. Dear x,

As long ago as I can remember I have always been fascinated by the naturalworld. That childish fascination has not left me but deepened over the years. This interest has led me to my love of biology, ecology, animal behavior andevolution.

Following my graduation from High School I studied Biological Sciences fortwo years at the Catholic University of Chile in Santiago. From March 20xx toNovember 20xx I was obliged to take a break from my studies at university as myfather was moving from the city to a more remote rural area. While helping myfather I was able to work closely with birds of prey among others and I wassuccessful in breeding the endangered chinchillas. During my time away fromuniversity I continued to deepen my knowledge of my subject and studiedevolutionary thinking and the biological basis of behavior. I also worked for abrief time as a translator which made me think that perhaps my English was goodenough o complete my studies in an English speaking country.

Since coming to Oxford and studying at OLT I have improved my writtenEnglish a great deal. I am a member of The Natural History Museum (London) andrecently attended a course called "The History of Evolution." The course wasorganized by Birkbeck Collegeand took place at the Natural History Museum inLondon each Wednesday. The course has been fascinating and has served to confirmmy suspicion that the more I learn of this subject the more I want to know.

I am hopeful that my previous studies in Santiago, my maturity and myexperience in this field will allow me to enter the second year of anundergraduate programme in the UK. After completing my undergraduate it is mywish to continue studying at postgraduate level and ultimately conduct my ownresearch in this area.

My other academic interests include Paleoanthropology, and the history anddevelopment of science. I am most interested in the writings of Darwin andThomas and Henry Huxley.

I am keen on fitness training, horse riding, trekking and diving. I am mostinterested in all outdoor pursuits. I am also keen to develop my newly foundskills in classical singing and dance.

I realize that as a non-native student I will be required to work harderthan my contemporaries and I am prepared to do that. I have a cheerful andopen-minded disposition and look forward to sharing and exploring new ideas.

I hope my application will be considered favorably

Yours sincerely,

Dear XX,

A Chinese graduate student of composite materials, I would like to pursuePh. D. studies in a program in which I can do advanced inter-disciplinaryresearch that is built upon my expertise in both chemical engineering andcomposite materials. I find that your program is one of the few where suchresearch is possible.

I am due to complete my Master's studies next year at the Beijing Instituteof Light Industry, a well-respected higher-learning institution that has servedas a major cradle of engineering talents for light industries in this country.Majoring in structural mechanics of composites, I have focused my studies onhoneycomb sandwich and its applications for civilian purposes. Although I didnot take many of the traditional undergraduate courses in this field, mygraduate studies have proceeded well. Building on my extensive workingexperience with all kinds of materials, I have completed a host of projects, aslisted in the Appendix, that are not only technologically advanced but alsocommercially profitable. My research has been highly commended by theschool.

To accomplish what I have accomplished, I have had to be more intelligentand overcome more difficulties than most of my classmates, for I did not get toreceive a regular undergraduate education. Although I performed strongly in the1988 National University Entrance Examinations and met the requirements foruniversity acceptance, I did not craft a good enough strategy in applying to theuniversities. As a result, my application fell through cracks, leaving me onlythe opportunity to study in a two-year college program, not to be discouraged bythis mishap, I studied with diligence and creativity, and succeeded in firmlygrounding myself in the studies of material propensities and structures. When Icompleted that program, I was as capable as most graduates from the honorsprogram in handling practical material problems from the angle of chemistry.

Upon graduation in 1990,I first took up the job of an assistant engineer ina biochemistry pharmaceutical manufacturer, where I was in charge of thedevelopment and analysis of several lines of products. I was given theresponsibility for VD Calcium Tablet in the first two weeks, as I demonstratedthat I was able to do independent research, particularly in terms ofquantitative analysis and microbiology inspection, from five raw materials tosemi-made and finished products. As my talents showed up, I took charge of theproduction and inspection of more and more products. Towards the end of 1991, Iwas awarded the honor of Excellent Employee in the factory of almost twothousand people in recognition of my contribution to its business.

Armed with the ability to quickly grasp the essence of new things, I madeeven more contribution to my second employer, a Joint-Venture Company ofcosmetics. In this company, In the first two months after I was hired, Iestablished, with reference to both the ISO and national standards,. Thecompany's standards of packaging materials for 35 different products fromcorrugated box to paper lid, from glass bottle to plastic cover. During thefirst half year, I turned myself from just a user of cosmetics to qualityengineer of cosmetic actively engaged in R. & D. Three new products (ElyseeVitamin E Cream, Elysee Tonique and Elysee Lipbalm) I helped to develop wererecognized as Provincial Scientific Achievements, for which I was conferredthree certificates of Honor. I believe that when one embarks on a new career, heshould be quick in accepting changes even though he must still stick to his oldprinciples.

In these six years of working experience, I greatly improved myself interms of technological expertise. I made chemical and microbiologicalexaminations of different drugs skillfully and independently, successfullydeveloped several new types of cosmetics, some of which merited the designationof Provincial Scientific Achievements. But more importantly, I learned to askmore sophisticated questions and then answer them.

The years of being an engineer has taught me how to be a person. I learnedto be both a team leader and a team player. Working in conjunction with others,I have always held onto the principle of being honest, modest and helpful toothers, whether I was just a technician, an engineer or even the assistant tothe general manager. I enjoy working with other people. I have been well likedby my colleagues. At the farewell parties for me, some of my friends were soreluctant to say goodbye to me that they would burst into tears.

While working for the Chinese factory, I was once "borrowed" by a collegeto teach there as an adjunct instructor for half a year. During those months, Ioften worked late to check students' work and prepare for the next day'sclasses. I believe that this teaching experience will serve me well should yoube able to offer me the position of a teaching assistant.

At the graduate school, I have met new challenges the old way. I firstacquired a profound understanding of the basic concepts and theories ofmechanics (theoretical and material ones), and then applied the fundamentals tomy major: composites. As you can see from the from the transcripts of academicrecord, this approach paid off. My first academic article Honeycomb SandwichComposite will be published in the second edition of the Journal of BeijingInstitute of Light Industry of 1998. Now I am writing my Master's Degree thesis,in which I shall compare the mechanical properties of corrugated cores andhoneycomb cores, analyze the outstanding characters of the latter, establish thestandards of civil-use honeycomb fiberboard, and consider the marketing futureof honeycomb fiberboard.

I am confident that the combination of my extensive working experience andmy solid academic training has adequately prepared me for advanced studies in mychosen field of specialty in your distinguished program. To undertake suchstudies, I have learned English well, so well that I was appointed first theEnglish secretary to the factory's director and then the assistant to thejoint-venture's general manager. In these positions, I dealt with internationalvisitors and handled English documents. Such English proficiency should prove agreat advantage to me once I am enrolled in your program.

Although I am now focusing my academic interests on composite materials, you may find that I may be more suitable for other majors. If so, I wouldgreatly appreciate it if you could advise me accordingly.

The following is a list of the research work I have undertaken under theguidance of my advisor (mostly in the area of industrial applications ofcomposites):

Yours sincerely,

Dear xx,

At the request of University of Denver, my student in Zhengzhou 19th HighSchool, I’m providing this reference, which I hope can be useful for you toreview her application to your undergraduate program.

I have been the Chinese teacher and class director in Zhengzhou 19th HighSchool for more than ten years. We are one of the most famous and high-qualityhigh schools in the whole city, the faculties in our school are all renowned andhighly-experienced. Though I’m relatively young in the school, I have lots ofexperience in Chinese teaching and student managing. I have been titled theoutstanding young teacher and class-director by school and city.

Yadi Wang came to my class in September 2006, the semester she entered ourschool. I know she is talent in music. She used to performance flute in ourschool activities, such as in talent show. In 2007, she passed the high leveltest of FLUTE LEVEL 8. She loves music that is all her classmates and schoolteachers know.

YADI WANG had special leadership and friendship in my class. Once we wereabout to take part in our school’s drama festival. We were supposed to play aChinese traditional drama –BAIMAONU. I analyzed some key plots and roles of thisdrama to my students, and then left all the other works to their own. YADI WANGwas in charge of the directing and casting. It was not an easy job as it maysound. The enthusiasm made everybody ask for the leading roles, but no one waswilling to take these minor ones. So YADI WANG decided to run an audition.Combined the performance in the audition and students’ actual characteristics,YADI WANG assigned everyone the most suitable role. And then, she divided thecrew into several groups. Different groups rehearsed in different places at thesame time. And the leading actors were the strings to connect these groups intoa collectivity. Through this way, it saved lots of time, which was the scarcestthing to middle school students, to get everybody into his role. And before thefinal performance, she just needed to call all the actors together for a previewfor once or twice. She has done even better than I had expected.

Another time was in a seminar, we ran a debate competition about teacher’sprofessional ethics. YADI WANG was the leading debater of the con side. Duringthe debate, she showed her wide knowledge and eloquence. She used lots ofproverbs, history figures and examples to support her stand, and every word ofher was incisive to get to the point, and also full of humors. Her performancewon both her teammates and opponents’ admiration.

Her positivity and versatility also can be found in many other aspects. Sheis ours school’s famous piano player who is always invited to play in manyoccasions. She knows the traditional skill of calligraphy writing, which she hasbeen practicing from very small. During weekends or vacations, the “HolidayWorking Team” she leads can always be found doing many community services.Normally, in order to get more students to participate in class’s management, the student cadre will change every semester or two, by student vote. But YadiWang has won all the elections by now, so she continued to be the monitor fromthe beginning of our class to today, and very likely to the graduation. All herclassmates have approbated her ability, characteristics and performance. She isalready a model in the class.

In this reference, I didn’t mention much about Yadi Wang’s grade, which Ibelieve you can easily find was so outstanding from her transcripts and herranking (25th out of 1560 students), because I’d like to give you something thatyou cannot find from these documents but I think is equally important tocontribute to her excellence. I do hope, according to my recommendation, youcould give her a favorable review. Thank you! Please feel free to contactme.

Yours sincerely.

Dear sir / madam:

I am a student, graduated from BaoYang middle school, Nanning, GuangXiautonomous region, in 2006. I am still studying in high school now, because Iwas not enrolled by the ideal university last year. Recently, I have a dream tostudy abroad. Then I search online and find that it is more convenient andsuitable for me to go to New Zealand for study.

First, New Zealand is a multicultural country, which has the most advancededucation in the world. Second, the tuition is lower than other countries’,which I think is mo

re reasonable for me. Finally, the climate of New Zealand is similar withthe climate of the South of China. Considering above reasons, I told my parentsmy plan on going to New Zealand for study, and my parent agreed with me.

As a girl, I like preschool education since I was young. Nowadays, Chineseparents, who want their children to get better education, pay more attention topreschool education. If I study specialized curriculums on preschool education,I will go back China and work hard on preschool education after leavingcollege.

My plan is as follows: first, I plan to study English in language institutefor about a half year in New Zealand. Then, I will study specialized curriculumson preschool education.

I believe I have the ability of study abroad, because I have finished allhigh school curriculums. Besides, my parents both have job and have rich income,so they will support me to finish my study. After finishing my study, I willreturn to my homeland and work on preschool education, so as to realize my lifevalue.

Sincerely yours,

  Li Ming
