　　第一部分对话：谈论天气

　　在这一讲里，你将听到几段短小的对话。听的时候，请集中精力听，尽可能不看下面的材料。

　　有人在公共汽车站上向一位陌生人打听情况。

　　MAN：Ah…excuse me，…can you tell me when thenext bus is due, please?

　　WOMAN: Ah, it's due in 5 minutes.

　　(这句话用来引起别人的注意，例如在这一讲里就是这样用的。在人多的地方请人腾出位子或让路也可以说这句话。)

　　It's a bit chilly 天气有点凉

　　It's getting late 时间不早了

　　It's warmer than (yesterday/last week,etc.) 今天比(昨天/上星期等等)暖和

　　What do you do for a living? 你是干什么工作的?(for a living本来是谋生的意思。)

　　ah 发这个声音有时侯表示讲话前的犹豫。

　　mm 这个声音表示“让我想想”的意思。

　　NAMES: Steve(男子名;是Stephen的昵称)

　　第三部分：课程

　　1. ASKING STRANGERS FOR INFORMATION 向陌生人打听情况

　　向陌生人打听情况可以用好几种客套话，最普通的是：

　　引起 + 表示请求+ 要打听

　　对方注意 + 的套话+ 的情况

　　Excuse me + can you + when...

　　Excuse me + can you + what...

　　Excuse me + can you + how... etc,

　　EXAMPLES

　　Excuse me, can you tell me.

　　when the next bus is due?

　　Excuse me, can you tell me

　　which bus goes to the school? .

　　Excuse me, can you tell me

　　what the time is?

　　请注意上面例句里的语序。在“表示请求的套语”部分用疑问句语序，在“要打听的情况”部分用陈述句语序。

　　2.MAKING SMALL TALK 闲谈

　　有时候我们感到有必要和别人应酬几句，例如在公共汽车站上向一位陌生人打听了什么情况之后，或者在坐公共汽车、火车去上班的.途中偶尔认识了二个人之后，按理都要说几句话。这一类的闭谈英语叫small talk.话题往往是“中性”的，就是说无关紧要的，而且很少牵涉到个人。最普通的一个话题是天气。在这种谈话里，常用反意疑问句(question tags)，要求对方作出反应，使谈话不致中断。

　　EXAMPLES

　　A: Hot (day/morning etc.), isn't it?

　　B: Yes, it is./Yes, it is isn't it?/Yes, isn't it?

　　A: It was cold (last night yesterday), wasn't it?

　　B: Yes it was./Yes, it was, wasn't it?/Yes wasn't it?

　　3. GETTING TO KNOW A PERSON BETTER 进一步了解对方的情况

　　了解对方的工作情况，可以这样问：

　　What do you do for a living?

　　Where do you work?

　　Do you like your job?

　　4. BRINGING A CONVERSATION TO AN END 结束谈话
