Li Bai, one of the most famous poets in Chinese history, wrote the poem “望庐山瀑布” when he visited Lushan Mountain. The poem is about the amazing view of a waterfall on the mountain.
In the first line, “日照香炉生紫烟”, Li Bai describes the sun shining on Xianglu Peak. The sunlight makes the water vapor around the peak turn into purple - like smoke, which creates a magical scene. Then, “遥看瀑布挂前川” shows that from a distance, the waterfall looks like a huge white ribbon hanging in the air. It gives people a strong visual impact.
The most exciting part is “飞流直下三千尺，疑是银河落九天”. Here, Li Bai uses exaggeration. The waterfall doesnt really have a height of three thousand feet, but this way of writing makes the waterfall seem extremely high and powerful. And comparing the waterfall to the Milky Way falling from the sky makes the view even more mysterious and magnificent.
This poem not only shows Li Bais great love for nature but also his amazing imagination. It has been loved by people for thousands of years.
