  A Clever Boy

  A young boy is playing with a ball in the street. He kicks it too hard, and it breaks the window of a house and falls inside. A lady comes to the window with the ball and shouts at the young boy. So the young boy runs away, but he still wants his ball back. A few minutes later he returns and knocks at the door of the house. When the lady answers it, he says, “My father’s going to come and fix your window very soon.”

  After a few more minutes, a man comes to the door with tools in his hand. So the lady lets the boy take his ball away.

  When the man finishes fixing the window, he says to the lady, “That will cost you ten dollars.”

  “But aren’t you the father of that young boy?” the woman asks. “Of course not,” he answers. “Aren’t you his mother?”

  Mr. Smith likes to be exact(精确的`) One day when he is walking in the street, a man comes over and asks him, “Excuse me, but where’s the nearest bookshop?“

  “The nearest bookshop? You have to cross a bridge and then turn to the right.”

  “Is the bridge long?”

  “Yes. It’s about thirty metres.”

  The man thanks him and goes towards the bridge. Suddenly he hears someone running after him.

  “Stop!” Mr. Smith is shouting. “I’m sorry. I just remember the bridge is forty metres long. If you go thirty metres and then turn to the right, as I told you to do, you’ll fall into the river.”

  The Best Salesman in the World

  Harry wants to be a great salesman, so he goes to a building and speaks to the manager. “I’m the best salesman in the world,” he says, “Give me a job as a salesman.”

  “You must prove you’re the best,” the manager says. The manager takes a box of candy out of his desk. “Last week, I bought 1,000 boxes of this candy. If you can sell them all before the end of the week, you can have the job.”

  “That’s very easy,” Harry says.

  He takes the box of candy and leaves the office. Every day and all day he goes from shop to shop, trying to sell boxes of the candy, but he can’t sell one. The candy is so bad that he can’t even give it away.

  At the end of the week he goes back to the manager. “I’m sorry, sir,” he says, “I am wrong about myself. I’m not the best salesman in the world, but I know who is.” “Oh, who?” the manager asks.

  “The person who sold you 1,000 boxes of this candy.”
