雅思G类大作文写作练习 1
section A
Task:Some people think getting old is entirely bad. However, others think that life of the elderly in modern world is much easier than in the past. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Sample answer:
Getting old is a natural process that nobody really likes. When you reach a certain age, your physical conditions will inevitably deteriorate, and you may suffer from various kinds of diseases. When you retire, you will feel isolated because your previous work contacts may be all gone, then you may feel useless to the world. Furthermore, when you get too old, you’ll have to rely heavily on the support from others, either physically or emotionally, and your life will become a great pressure to your family and the whole society as well.
For all these bad things about getting old, many people argue that the life of the elderly today is much easier than in the past. In the first place, medical advances nowadays have made it possible for the old people to stay sound and healthy for quite a long while even after they retire. Diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and heart attack which might have inflicted pain on the old people are no longer serious problems for them. Then, with the widespread use of modern communication technology, old people today are no longer isolated from the world. Instead, by using their personal social media, they can always stay in touch with their families and friends, and share with them whatever they find interesting in their life. In this way, they do not really feel lonely or abandoned. Finally, the improved social wealth and pension system have also significantly reduced the pressure the old people pose to their families and communities.
So, I do agree that the old people today are enjoying a much more comfortable life than, say, thirty years ago (not to mention 100). That is why, instead of being worried about their retired life, many people even begin to expect their retirement to come, because they see this as a new beginning of their life. I think, as long as the old people have the right attitude, the modern world has indeed much to offer for their happy, enjoyable and rewarding retired life.
section B
Task:Some people think that tourists can learn very much about a place they are visiting on holiday while others think they cannot. Describe both these views and give your own opinion.
Sample Answer:
In recent years, traveling is a preferable choice for folks who desire to escape from the tedious daily routines and eager to experience something refreshing and enlightening. It is believed by some people that visitor sare able to learn much about their destinations while others hold the opposite idea.
On one hand, it is admitted that tourists can have a deep understanding of local history especially when paying a visitto ancient cities with precious historical sites and relics. For instance, Xi’an, as the capital of many dynasties in ancient China, where the Terra-Cotta Warriors and Daming Palaceare located is a vivid history book recording the notable achievements and splend or architecture of Qing and Tang dynasty. In addition, if traveling outside the national boundary, travelers have the chance to experience exotic and appealing cultural customs. In Japan, people prefer to wear kimono (an item of traditional Japanese clothing) to attend wedding or formal ceremonies. Also, as soon as the sakura (cherry blossom) are in full bloom, Japanese people would have a picnic with friends or families under the sakura trees, chatting and drinking.
On the other hand, it is understandable that nothing about the visiting place can be learnt. Supposed that taking a vacation in an island resort, all tourists can do is to lie on the beach, swim in the sea, view the sunrise or sunset and enjoy a spa after a day’s sun bath. Having a good relax of their minds and bodies are the first priorities. Besides, for some people, joinery is a time when they could just appreciate attractive scenery and grand beauty of nature as well as taste gourmet cuisines rather than aggravating the burden on brains.
In conclusion, as far as I am concerned, the aims of traveling vary with each individual, which determines whether people could understand the local history and traditions or not. Anyway, travel provides an unparalleled opportunity to explore the world and human inner heart.
雅思G类大作文写作练习 2
Topic:
The increase in the production of consumer goods results in damage to the natural environment. What are the causes of this? What can be done to solve this problem?
Sample answer:
The high demand of consumer goods has led to the depletion of natural resources as well as environmental degradation. How to reverse this situation should be paid more attention and both the government and individuals should take responsibility for this.
The past decades have witnessed the expansion of human population, which results in the ever-growing requirement for various products such as food, clothing. Not only does this cause the decrease of natural resources, but also contributes to environmental deterioration. An example of this is that people cut down more trees for disposable chopsticks and furniture, leading to deforestation in many areas. This further causes some problems like soil, erosion, droughts and change in temperature.
Another reason is that people lack environmental awareness. Otherwise, they would not live a throw-away life and cause some avoidable waste or pollution. A large number of people have not yet realized the importance of recycling, nor are they conscious of the households appliances can end up in landfill sites and these non-biodegradable products can have a destructive effect on the environment.
To cope with this problem, governments should firstly try to raise publics awareness for environmental protection and recycling. Besides, they should also invest heavily in some renewable energy resources such as nuclear, solar or wind energy. Meanwhile, ordinary people should make an effort to consume less and recycle more and classify rubbish in order to reduce the damage of waste.
To sum up, the increase of world population and insufficient environmental consciousness are associated with the issue stated. And to combat with it, every member in the society should take actions.
