As people are becoming more conscious of their appearance, man-made beauty beings to emerge. Some people are strongly opposed to beautifying one’s image by surgeries. But I don’t think so and I insist that man-made beauty confirms to the human nature of loving beauty.

I have two reasons to support my view. On the one hand, everyone loves beautiful things and physical beauty makes one more presentable, thus boosting one’s self-confidence. Moreover one’s appearance really counts on many occasions. For example, in the interviews especially for the posts of secretaries, administrative assistance, and public relations ladies, interviewees with good looking have an advantage over those with plain looking. On the other hand, the surgeries can beautify the people with defects and free them of discrimination. For instance, many people with inborn disfigured faces or burned skin are able to come out of the darkness and into the light by means of cosmetic surgery.

The world is not only hungry,but also thirsty for water. This may seem strange to you, since nearly 75 % of the earth's surface is covered with water. But about 97% of this huge amount is sea water, or salt water. Man can only drink and use the other 3% -- the fresh water that comes from rivers, lakes,underground, and other sources. And we cannot even use all of that, because some of it is in the form of icebergs and glaciers. Even worse, some of it has been polluted.
However, as things stand today, this small amount of fresh water, which is constantly being replaced by rainfall, is still enough for us. But our need for water is increasing rapidly-- almost day by day. Only if we take steps to deal with this problem now can we avoid a severe worldwide water shortage later on. A limited water supply would have a bad effect on agriculture and industry. Let me give you just one small exampie of how necessary water is to industry. Did you know that to produce a single ton of steel, it takes about 91, 000 liters of water?
We all have to learn how to stop wasting our precious water. One of the first steps we should take is to develop ways of reusing it. Experiments have already been done in this field, but only on a small scale.

I would like to explain our company policy concerning personnel matters including promotion, transfer, retirement and so on.
With a few exceptions, we announce promotions and transfers on April 1 every year. The decision about promotions is based upon the judgment of the head of the department concerned as well as the recommendations by the personnel committee. As to transfers, it it usually determined on the basis of the recommendations by the head of the department concerned. We have a flexible policy concerning transfers. That is, if an individual does not wish a transfer, she or he can decline the transfer appointment. As to our retirement policy, we set the retirement age at 60, and allow for earlier retirement if one wishes.
