　　The Princess and the Pea

　　There was once a prince,who led a happy life.One day his father said to him,"I'm getting old.When I die,you will make a good king.But you need a queen.Find yourself a wife!"

　　So the prince traveled around the world to find a princess,but it had to be a real princess.Yes,there were lots of princess,but none of them seemed real,there was always something wrong,and so he came home very troubled.

　　One evening,a knock came on the door.The old king himself went to open it.Before him stood a princess.The king hurried her inside.The-prince liked the princess very much,and he wished with all his heart that she was a real princess.The queen also wanted to make sure,and she had an idea.She took a pea from the kitchen and put it under the mattress.Then she put several other mattresses on top of it.The princess was to sleep right at the top.The princess was very tired from the day.After sup-per she went straight to bed,but she couldn't sleep.The pea under the mattresses dug into her so hard that by morning she was black and blue.Only a real princess could be so sensitive.How happy the prince was.Now the most beautiful princess had come to him.They had a wonderful wedding,but the pea was put in a glass box,where it can still be seen to-day.

　　从前有个王子,过着快乐的生活。有一天他的父亲对他说:“我越来越老了。我死了,你要当个好国王。你要有个王后,你自己去找吧!”

　　于是王子周游世界去找公主,她必须是位真正的公主。的确,世上有许多公主,但似乎都不是真正的公主,总是有一些不尽人意的地方,所以他十分烦恼地回到了家。

　　一天晚上,传来了一阵敲门声。老国王亲自去开门。站在他面前的正是一位公主! 老国王赶紧请她进来。王子非常喜欢这位公主,满心希望她是位真正的公主。王后也想证实一下她是不是真正的公主,便想出了一个主意。王后从厨房取来一粒豌豆放在床垫下,然后再铺上几张床垫,公主将要睡在这上面。公主走了一天,已十分疲倦,晚饭后就径直上了床,可是她却睡不着。床垫下的`豌豆十分坚硬,早上起床时,她已被硌得青一块紫一块的了。只有真正的公主才会如此娇嫩敏感。王子是多么的幸福啊! 最美丽的公主来到了他的身边! 他们举行了盛大的婚礼。那颗豌豆却被以在了一个玻璃盒里,至今还能看得见呢。
