　　Another generation is being brought up by the young parents who have been growing up with the television set. Having the own experiences and concentrating much on the negative effects of television, therefore, many young parents think that the television is detrimental for their children and consider banning it from their children. Do those young parents remember the Popeye the Sailor, the Sesame Street, and DiscoveryChannel which had brought them lots of fun and knowledge? Don’t they feel sympathy for their children’s lack of the fun from the television which they have once benefited from in their happy childhood? Children should have a happy and healthy psychology and absorb interesting knowledge in their childhood. Television can both entertain and teach the children a lot. Television is beneficial for the children.

　　Children can benefit a happy childhood and learn many good behaviors from the television. There are many cartoon TV programs for children. The cartoons shows are very funny, interesting, and what’s more, very meaningful. Children can be easily influenced by their parents, especially the younger children, they see on the television. They would like to imitate them. Children can not only gain the happiness, such as Tom and Jerry, which can have a good influence on their psychology growth, but also learn the good behavior from the characters in the cartoon, such as Popeye in the Popeye the sailor which can more of less influence the formation of children’s character. So television is beneficial for children’s mental growth and their character formation.

　　Children can learn much knowledge from the educational programs. There are many TV programs which are specialized for children. The content in the children programs are specially designed for children by the experts. So there is abundant knowledge for children to learn on TV, such as the most popular one in America which is called the Sesame Street and the most well-known one in China called the 3000 Questions of the Blue Cat. These children programs are colorful and played with music. That can benefit the children’s vision and the sense of music. What’s more important, they can not only entertain the children, but also teach the children a great amount of knowledge. Moreover, besides the children TV programs, there are also many other TV programs for everyone which are suitable for children, such as the programe--Discovery Channel. It may help the children to know more about the nature and animals which they can’t see in their daily life, especially those who live in cities. Television is beneficial for children’s intellectual growth.

　　Children can also learn to distinguish the truth information on television from a young age. There are all kinds of advertisement on television. And many of them sometimes will mislead the children as well as the young. Many parents are worried about that there are so much fake information on television nowadays which may have a considerably negative effects on their children. It may lead to a negative result. But it can be a positive one, too. The point is that parents should accompany their children when their children are watching television. They can not only choose the appropriateprograms for their children, but also tell them how to distinguish the fake information.
