这三个动词都有“强迫”之义，但程度不同。
Force用及物动词讲，表示“强迫”、“迫使”、“强逼”，指以暴力威胁、武力强迫，后面跟的动作常常是不情愿的。例如：
The poor peasant was forced to sell his daughter to the landlord.
那位贫农被迫将自己的女儿卖给地主。
They forced me into going there.他们强迫我去那里。
She was forced to borrow money.她被迫借钱。
compell作及物动词讲，表示，“迫使”，指运用权力、力量迫使对方采取某种行动，尤其在被动语态中含“别无他法”之意，compell的意义比force弱。例如：
I compelled him to give up the plan.我强迫他放弃此计划。
He was compelled by illness to suspend his experiment.他因病不得不暂停试验。
Oblige表示“强制”、“不得不”，指客观情况使人不得不干，必要性较强，语气绞弱。例如：
I was obliged to give up the plan.我不得不放弃那计划
Ill health obliged him to retire early.健康情况不佳使他不得不提前退休。
