这三个名词都涉及到某种东西的燃烧问题，在一定的上下文中也都可以译成汉语的“火”或“火焰”的意思。
Fire是这三个词中最普通的一个用词不达意。它既可以指慢慢燃烧时所产生的“火”。其火势可大可小，还可以表示抽象概念的“热情”、“兴奋”等意思。例如：
strike fire from flint用燧石打火
hearts filled with fire充满热情的心
People who are in the sunlight or near a fire get warm.人站在太阳底下或靠近炉火就会暖和起来。
There’s no smoking without fire.无火不起烟。（即无风不起浪。）
blaze着得强调燃烧的强蝶恋花和快速程度，即指比较大的“火焰”。有时它暗含着一个可以控制且令人愉快的温暖之意，同时还可发出光来，所以，有时可以译成汉语中的“光辉”、“明亮”等意思。例如：
a blaze of flowers 百花盛开
a blaze of light灯火辉煌
It took the firemen three hours to put the blaze out.消防队员花了3个小时才将大火扑灭。
The blaze of a cheerful fire can be seen from the window.从窗房可以看见融融的炉火。
Flame可以表示孤立的“小火”，也可以表示大火的“火舌”。在表示“热情”、“怒火”等意思时，可以替换fire。例如：
the flames of sunset 火焰似的晚霞
the flames of revolution革命的烈火
The sun’s flames are very much hotter and bigger than any other fire on earth.太阳的火焰比地球上任何火焰都热得多和大得多。
She gazed at the flame of the candle.她凝视着烛火。
The house burst into flames.房子燃烧起来了。
