  Lesson 61

  I.Idea:Talking class

  Aim:1.Learn how to use ellipsis;

  2.Learn the sentence structure “I wish + that clause”.

  Time: 40 minutes

  Preparation: recorder

  II.Lead-in:

  Step1: Ask Ss some questions,such as:

  Have you ever been to the seaside? Can you swim? How do you like swimming in the sea? III.Presentation:

  Step2:Speech Cassette Lesson 61.

  Ask Ss listen to the tape of the dialogue,then answer some questions.

  e.g. What day is it in the dialogue? Where are they talking? Where would Bruce like to go today? Step3: Ask Ss to read the dialogue in pairs,then ask 2---3 groups to read it before the class. IV.Language study:

  Step4: Help Ss understand some sentence structures.

  1. Beautiful day,isn’t it?

  Point out ,on one hand,it’s a question in form,but a statement in function;on the other hand,it’s an elliptical sentence.The complete sentence should be “It’s a beautiful day,isn’t it?”. Then help Ss know how to use ellipsis.

  2. I wish + that clause

  Point out the structure wish + Past Indefinite for a wish about something in the present;wish + Past Perfect for a wish about something in the past.

  V.Practice:

  Step5: Do Ex on SB Page 23,Part 4&5.

  Step6: Do Ex on WBPage 88,Part 2&3.

  VI.Consolidation:

  Step7: Ask Ss to make up a new dialogue in pairs,using some of the phrases in the text.Then ask 1---2 pairs to show their dialogues before the whole class.

  Lesson 62

  I.Idea: Reading class

  Aim: 1.Improve Ss reading ability;

  2.Get some knowledge about oceans,seas and lakes.

  Time: 40 minutes

  Preparation: a map of the world

  II.Lead-in:

  Step1: Put up a map of the world on the Bb.

  Ask Ss to tell you the names of as many oceans and seas of the world as they know.

  Step2: Ask Ss a question:

  If we look at the earth from space,what colour does it look? Why?

  III.Presentation:

  Step3: Read aloud the four questions on SB Page 20,Part 1. Ask Ss to discuss them in groups before reading the text. Allow them enough time to talk about them in the purpose of arouse their

  interest in the text. Then ask them to read the text quickly,try to find the answers from the text to see if their answers or guesses were correct.

  IV.Reading:

  Step4: Ask Ss to read the text again.While they are reading,they should make some notes on Page 21,Part 4.

  V.Practice:

  Step5: Do WB Ex Page 89,Part1.

  Step6: From the text,ask Ss toguess the meaning of some words and do WB Page 89,Part 2. VI.Consolidation:

  Step7: Group work.

  Give Ss six topics,such as: the earth’s surface;oceans;Meditarranean Sea;coral beds,Dead Sea and the Great Salt Lake.Divide Ss into six groups and each group says something about one of the topics.

  Step8: Ask Ss to get some information about some famous Chinese Seas or rivers.

  Lesson 63

  I.Idea: Discussing class

  Aim: 1.Learn how to express the length,depth or width of an object;

  2.Learn how to discuss in English around a topic.Ss should think in English as well as say in it where they’re discussing a problem.

  Time: 40 minutes

  Preparation: multimedium

  II.Lead-in:

  Step1: Ask Ss to say something about some famous Chinese seas and rivers.

  III.Presentation:

  Step2: Ask Ss to read the text on SB Page22,Part1.

  Do WB Ex Page 90,Part1.

  IV.Discussing:

  Step3: Divide Ss into small groups to discuss the questions on SB Page 22,Part2.Then go through the answers with the whole class.

  V.Consolidation:

  Step4: Play a video tape or a disc which shows a film of a kind of fish.Then ask Ss to discuss about the film in groups.Then T can collect all the information to make up a brief introduction or a description about that kind of fish.

  Homework: Finish off the WB Ex Page 90,Part 2&3.

  I.Idea: Listening & writing class

  Aim: 1.Review the main points of Unit 16;

  2.Improve listening ability;

  3.Improve writing ability.

  Time: 40 minutes

  Preparation: recorder

  II.Lead-in:

  Step1: Ask Ss a few questions about the previous texts.

  e.g. How much of the earth’s surface is sea?

  Which is saltier,the Mediterranean or the Atlantic?

  Where can you find coral?

  What has made the Dead Sea so salty?

  III.Listening:

  Step2: WB Page 148. Listening Cassettee Unit 16.

  Read the introduction to Ss. Listen to the tape once,then do Part 1.

  Step3: Listen to the tape again,discuss the answers about Part 2&3 in pairs.

  Step4: Ask Ss to do Part 4 in groups.Then go through the answers with the whole class. IV.Writing:

  Step5: SB Page 24,Part 2.

  First,ask Ss to fill in the blanks individually;

  Second, discuss their answers in pairs or groups;

  At last, ask 3 students to read the passage.

  V.Consolidation:

  Step6: WB Page 91,Part2.

  Ask Ss to talk about the picture in groups.

  e.g. What can you see in the picture?

  What are the people in the picture doing?

  Step7: Ask Ss to write a paragraph about a visit to the seaside.Start the paragraph like this:

  Last Sunday we went to the seaside.First we walked along the beach.We saw some fishing boats out at sea.Then we…
