Senior Communist Party leader Wei Jianxing has urged the CPC to unswervingly improve its working style, fight against corruption, and build a cleaner government.

During group discussions of the ongoing 16th CPC congress, he said the fight against corruption has achieved obvious results through the combined efforts of the Party and the entire society over the past 13 years.

Wei Jianxing believes China has preliminarily found an effective way of eliminating corruption, adding that the CPC is fully capable of resolving the problem. He calls for more preventive measures to eradicate corruption-breeding conditions from its sources, by upholding democracy, perfecting the legal system and strengthening public supervision.

A senior delegate of the ongoing Chinese Communist Party Congress states that, as Hong Kong and Macao have already returned to the motherland, China will try to resolve the Taiwan question as soon as possible in an effort to realize an early reunification.

Attending group discussions of the Party Congress, Vice Premier Qian Qichen says party members all expressed their support for the central government’s policy on the Taiwan issue. They all applauded warmly as Jiang Zemin evoked the issue in his speech delivered at the opening session of the Congress.

Qian Qichen notes that cross-straits relations are intensifying with growing economic and commercial exchanges between the two.

He also stressed the One-China principle which remains the basis for cross-straits discussions.

Delegates of Taiwan origin attending the on-going 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China say the report delivered by Jiang Zemin at the congress shows the CPC's goodwill and sincerity in promoting the development of cross-Straits ties.

Discussing the report, the delegates say its content about "one county, two systems" and reunification of the motherland offers a good chance for improving cross-Straits relations and a bright prospect for peaceful reunification.

The delegates say they expect Taiwan authorities to make a correct response as soon as possible, cease from activities harmful to the common interests of people on the two sides of the Taiwan Straits and return to the consensus on the one-China principle.

Spotlight on Bergen,Norway

Sights and sounds in and around Norway's most famous seaside city

In Norway, people love the great outdoors. In any weather, fair or foul, people fish, hike and ski. Discovering Norway's charm means enjoying its outdoor delights. The greatest of these are Norway's fjords. Bergen, on the country's scenic west coast, is the gateway to Norway's fjord country.

A one-day trip by boat and train from Bergen lets you experience Norway's most spectacular fjord, Sognefjord. You'll see mountains that rise 1,000 meters (3,281 feet) straight up from the water. In other places, farms and small towns lie on gentle slopes.

The fjords are Norway's main claim to fame, but Bergen also boasts one of the prettiest cityscapes in northern Europe. Boats fill the harbor, and 14th-century buildings painted red, blue, yellow and green line the Bryggen, or waterfront.

Bergen was the country's largest city for hundreds of years. From 1370-1754, merchants from northern Germany made the city a thriving port. Take a tour with a local guide and walk through 900 years of history. Active workshops now fill the old buildings. You can see painters, weavers and others at work.

Questions for Discussion:
What is your personal "claim to fame"? In other words, what is a special quality that people often notice about you?
