China is taking temporary anti-dumping measures against imports of polyester stable fiber produced in South Korea.
A statement released by the foreign trade ministry says the decision was made following an investigation and the first arbitration session.
Investigation found that dumping did take place and that the imports have caused substantial damage to the domestic industry.
The foreign trade ministry also announced that importers of polyester stable fiber produced in South Korea should provide cash deposits to Chinese Customs in accordance with the decision.

Vice director of the National Statistics Bureau, Qiu Xiaohua, says the goal of 7 percent growth rate for the gross domestic product this year can be met.
Qiu Xiaohua explains this is thanks to the country's proactive fiscal policy and moderate policy, adding that most national economic indices are better than anticipated.
The official says that the first half of the year has seen a year-on-year GDP growth of 7.8 percent, higher than last year's figure of 7.3 percent. He notes that the national economy is expected to maintain a steadily rapid development in the latter half of the year.

Latest data show that the number of people accepting the minimum social security funds has risen to over 19 million. The funds mostly cover all those in need. So far China has spent nearly 900 million dollars in minimum social security funds.
The funds concentrate mainly on people working in factories of old industrial bases in central and western China, as well as their relatives.

Vice Minister of Communications, Hu Xijie says China will realize its highway modernization plans in less than fifty years.
Addressing a forum on road transportation, Hu Xijie revealed that the total length of China's highways would be increased from 1.7 million to 4 million kilometers by the year 2050, in line with resources and the environmental considerations.
He says by 2010, traffic congestion will be eased considerably, and intelligent transport management put into use. By 2050, it's predicted that there will be wide use of environmentally friendly cars.

China has approved a raft of multimillion deals with U.S. and European businesses, primarily in the telecommunications sector.
China Unicom has signed the agreements with Motorola, Lucent Technologies, Nortel Networks and Ericsson.
The motorola deal in the deployment of a CDMA 1X system is worth 446 million US dollars.
China Unicom is also giving Sweden-based Ericsson deals worth more than $150 million for improvements to its some of its existing telecommunications network. The contracts call for Ericsson to upgrade existing cdmaOne networks to CDMA 1X.
Oil giant Sinopec has signed a framework agreement with Exxon Mobil Corp to expand their joint ventures' energy operations.
They'll move forward with joint ventures under development in the coastal provinces of Fujian and Guangdong.

US stocks retreated on Tuesday, snapping a three-day streak of gains, as dour outlooks from companies like chip maker Texas Instruments Incorporated reined in enthusiasm over the market's turnaround in the past two weeks.
The technology-loaded Nasdaq Composite index slumped 1.3 per cent, to 1,292. The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial average fell over one pe rcent, at 8,450.
European stocks finished lower on dismal earnings news.
London's FTSE-100 index closed down nearly half a per cent to 4,118. In Paris, the CAC 40 index ended over one per cent lower to 3,121.Frankfurt's DAX index finished at 3,155, down nearly four per cent.
China's Foreign Trade Ministry is formally seeking opinions from the public on the trade policies of WTO member countries, a right that is given any member after its accession to the WTO.
The right to discuss trade policy under the WTO framework means that member countries can conduct regular examinations of other members’ trade policies and better observe WTO rules.
Since it joined the WTO late last year, China has participated in discussions of the trade policies of India and Australia.

Greyhound a subsidiary of the Canadian based Laidlaw Incorporated, the largest carrier group in Canada and in the United States, has signed contracts with the New National Express Group, a trans-provincial expressway transportation company in China.
The two companies will join hands for transportation development of the road network in China.
Their cooperation will target management skills and transportation of small goods as well as international and domestic tourists. China will import advanced technologies from Canada, such as the ticket selling system and the security management network.

Beijing has completed another subway line which links famed computer mecca Zhongguancun with other business areas in the southeast part of the city.
Experts stressed that the latest subway line will be very helpful in facilitating people's transportation.
The line was designed according to international standards and avoided overlapping with expressways or highways.
According to city planners, Beijing will complete a total of 300 kilometers of subway or other tracks by 2008.

US-based ExxonMobil and the China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation or Sinopec have signed a framework agreement that will strengthen an existing strategic alliance and push forward their joint venture projects in the Chinese provinces of Fujian and Guangdong.
The integrated refinery and petrochemical complex in Fujian province will expand the existing 4 million-ton-per year refinery to 12 million ton-per-year capacity.
