Chinese President Jiang Zemin has met with nearly 14,000 Japanese tourists at a grand gathering in Beijing, to mark the 30th anniversary of the normalization of Sino-Japanese ties.
In a major speech, he stressed the importance of people-to-people exchange, which he believes plays an irreplaceable role in the development Sino-Japanese ties. And China will never forget those old friends who are committed to Sino-Japanese friendship.
The Chinese president calls for expanded cooperation and exchanges with Japan based on the spirit of viewing history as a mirror and looking forward to the future.
Also present at the ceremony were Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao, Vice Premier Qian Qichen, and former Japanese Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto.
Earlier, a monument to commemorate the Sino-Japanese friendship forest was unveiled at the Badaling section of the Great Wall in Beijing, with a tree planting activity accompanied. Chinese President Jiang Zemin has written inscription for the monument.
The huge tourist exchange has become the biggest civilian exchange in history between the two countries.

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji has arrived in the Danish capital of Copenhagen to attend the fourth Asia-Europe Meeting, and the fifth EU-China Summit. He will also pay an official visit to Denmark.
In a written statement, Zhu Rongji says the summit meeting is of great significance for China and Europe. Sino-European relations have entered the best development phase in history and this meeting will further boost all-round cooperation and friendship.
Talking about Sino-Danish ties, Zhu Rongji says China and Denmark have maintained an enduring friendship, and hopes that bilateral relations will be further strengthened.

The Second World Integrative Medicine Congress has opened in Beijing. Chinese Vice Premier Li Lanqing sent a congratulatory letter.
The three-day meeting wil focus on achievements made in integrative medicine and the prospect of the medicine.
Moreover, delegates from India, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam will exchange ideas on integration between domestic traditional medicine and modern science.
More than a thousand representatives from nearly 30 countries have attended the congress.

China has made preliminary achievements in its efforts to adjust agricultural structure since 1999.
Compared with the situation in 1998, China reduced nearly nine and a half million hectares of grain fields while achieving an increase of more than six million hectares of farmland for cash crops and feed crops. And the planting areas for the two crops accounted for over 30 percent of those for total farm produce.
The official Xinhua News Agency says a basic layout for coordinated development among grains, cash crops and feed crops has been formed.
Moreover, since 1998, China’s output of meat, eggs and aquatic products saw an increase of more than 10 percent.

The city of Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong province leads the country in terms of export growth.
In the first eight months of this year, the city exported 28.5 billion US dollars worth of commodities, up 22 percent from the same period last year.
This growth rate is 4.2 percentage points higher than the national average, and the highest among large and medium-size cities on the Chinese mainland.
Export processing trade took the lion's share of the total, reaching 23 billion US dollars from January to August.
Shenzhen also reports rapid rises in exports of high-tech commodities, which have become a major driving force of the city's exports.

A Chinese crane company has received an export order from France worth 70 million euros for 10 large container cranes, the first of its kind for a Chinese firm.
(An agreement has been signed between Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Company and French port terminal equipment company Societe d'Equipment du Terminal de L'Ocean.)
The container crane is a state-of-the-art port crane capable of lifting up to 71 tons to a height of 40 meters.
A spokesperson for the Shanghai-based crane company says the crane is 30 percent more efficient than standard versions, and can lift up to 60 containers per hour.
The Chinese company won orders earlier this year from Germany, the Netherlands, Britain and Spain for a total of 46 cranes.

Some 300 leading executives from all over the world are expected to converge in Hong Kong for the second annual Forbes Global CEO Conference from Tuesday to Thursday.
