The United States and its allies vow to force Iraq to honor UN resolutions, as diplomats from around the world seek to convince Baghdad to readmit arms inspectors to avoid war.

Secretary of State Colin Powell says he expects quick action from the international community to condemn what he calls Iraq's defiance of Security Council resolutions.

Powell notes that the United States will give other countries a few days to consider President Bush's call for action to enforce 16 earlier UN resolutions, but hopes to begin drafting new resolutions by the end of this week.

Powell adds that any resolution should include a tight deadline for Iraq to declare "within weeks" its willingness to comply.
