Good afternoon

Ladies and gentleman, two thousand years ago, the Chinese philosopher, Confucius, advocated a harmonious society without selflessneand conflicts. Fifteen hundred years later, the English author, Tomas More, wrote about an imaginary place in which everyone enjoys peace equality and common wealth. These and various other ideal worlds have something in common: peace, love and harmony.

Such has been a dream of human beings throughout the world. And we have been long working hard toward this goal. History has witnessed numerous wars and even today some parts of the world are still suffering from the threats of conflicts. Such a dream, however, has only been going stronger instead of going awry. When the athletes from North and South Korea walked into the Olympic field hand in hand, handing one flag of Korean peninsula, they together lit the torch to end the half-century’s conflicts. It is true there are still many problems in the world-Problems of too complicated roots to be solved at once.

As we all know, some small countries are being bullied by big power now and then; but at the same time we see protests being staged all over the world. The nuclear power has caused unstable equilibrium but the cold war has made us aware that what a desolate future the world would have if nuclear war to break out. Racial discrimination and religious conflicts still prevail, but as far as I know, no religion in the world teaches people to hate or fight, indeed, reality is always far from ideal. But the problems are nor altogether unsolvable. We human beings are blessed with reasonand have the confidence that the light of reason will eventually disperses the dark and shadows with economy is growing at an amazingly fast rate in the last two decades.

China is now facing with both tremendous opportunities as well as challenges. An important charge of mindset is that china is learning to be critical of its own problems and more concerned with addressing these problems, public opinion has been so active abs constructive as it is now. Self-criticism and a sense of crisis is a sign of maturity and self-confidence. Chinese visionaries are now advocating green GDP and attaching great importance to social development that emphasizes human beings. So it is not hard to see the direction in which china is moving. Policymaking is getting more down to earth. Corruption is still being fought hard and concepts such as due proceand human rights are working their way into public consciousness. So, with all these efforts going on, sure and steady, there is good reason to believe that china’s future will be bright.

Last week, a forum was held in Beijing, the theme is Chinese dream and a harmonious world. The message is that all Chinese have a dream and that dream is peace and propensity and the realization of this dream will contribute to the harmony of the whole world.

Thank you very much.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, honorable judges and distinguished guests:

After thinking for a long time, I realize it’s not a good idea to downsize the topic from our future to any individual future. But since actually did it, I thought it couldn’t be any worse if I intend to talk about history all over my speech, as I perfectly agree with Shakespeare in, “what’s past is prologue,” (quotation from Shakespeare to prove past is just the beginning of future and to exprethe reason why he didn’t talk about history next )and this prologue starts our play for the future. So our story, at the beginning, takes us back to Thomas Edison. Many would say Edison’s greatest invention, light bulb, is the result of a determined course accompanied by hard labor and the sprit of never giving up, as we all know,(take Edison’s story of inventing light bulb for example) he said, “a genius is 1% inspiration with 99% perspiration.” (quotation) But the amusing fact was Edison actually stumbled acrothe phenomenon that electric-currents would heat up fibers and makes them glow when he was working with his gramophone. So light bulb, we say is an unintentional invention. Yes, your might point mirror thing in his mother’s operation story(another story) could have worked as an incentive for to dream of something brighter. But it is hard to imagine that little boy, as he was holding the mirror in the front of the candles saying to himself, “I am going to invent something called light bulb someday”.

The speaker totally takes two examples of Edison

I guenot, most likely that what we get is a bigger candle. (put his own opinion forward since here)So future cannot be planned, someday not even the way we dream of it in our pursuit for success. It is a match that favors neither the swift nor the strong. But time and chances as Mark-twain said “Name the greatest of all inventors: accident.” But why do we still call these inventions great when all they need was a little luck? They are great because they did not live by their luck, their greatnecame from anther thing, perseverance. (emphasize the importance of perseverance)

Back to Edison, anyone working with electricity couldn’t have missed the phenomenon-heated up wire is a daily occurrence, but it was Edison-and Edison only-who tried out more than a thousand materials and got about the same number of failures and succeeded in the end(think deeply, why Edison finally can make it). Chances help those who help themselves. If Edison had been an opportunist, most likely he would live the rest of his life selling light bulbs.(brave assumption) But he didn’t. Indeed, sometimes that however much perspiration you have paid, that 1% of inspiration just don’s stride your head like my experience in writing this speech. (another perspective that inspiration play an significant role in Edison’s success)

But more often the case is that those who had the 1% of inspiration wasted it in their daydreaming.(reflection of the negative fact in modern society) So luck alone-like being a big game winner in a casino-that makes you rich, but it does not make you great; it is what you do with the chance that makes a difference, do after such a long prologue, the play is still left us to finish and this is a play we never get tired of, for future is a stage of infinite tales. And to all the great directors of our future plays, remember this question: Do we each have a destiny, or are we just rather flowing an accident life in the breeze? Maybe it’s both can happen at the same time. And I never stop believing that every solid step I made will lead me to somewhere eventually. Actually it did lead me here and I would call it an unintentional destiny. (put person’s brave assumption after question and state his person brief , short end but arise audience’s deep

thoughts)Thank you!

Dream for ourselves

Good afternoon:

Ladies and gentlemen, the topic of my speech today is Dreams of Ourselves. In the first day of my English oral course, our teacher asked us to think about what we would be doing ten years from now, go to America and marry an American girl, a guy student said. He thought it might one of the best ways to learn English well. I may be raising my children with some freelance work to boot, uttered one of my roommates, who was unanimously voted by us to be our “ miangel in the house”. What about you, Richard, our teacher turned to the walking dictionary of our class. I may be taking up your position and busy being a respected professor. The whole claroared with laughter, our teacher laughed, too.

What beautiful dreams we used to have. But now, everybody is busy doing double major, stuffing their heads with straight As internships, exchange programs. The once vigorous and diversified voices have thinned into one: be the one that suits need of the job market.

Ladies and gentlemen, it means the dreams should relevant to reality. But now, aren’t we college students too much bound by this reality? If dreams are simply reality shows, can they still be

called dreams? A couple weeks ago, I read the story of Ma Yan, who had to drop out of school because of poverty. She said she wanted to go to school so that her family could live a better life. However, growing up impressed by Martin Luther king’s I have a dream talk and the Chinese proverb that everyone is born to be somebody. My classmates and I may think that we are ledriven than this starving little girl. But aren’t we making any difference, if we are not being true to ourselves?

Ladies and gentlemen, Steven jobs, CEO of apple computer, once said, our time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else life. I think it’s especially true with us twenty something, who are sort of feeling disoriented in face of dream and reality. The other night, my roommate complained to me what little memory she would have for her college days. True! The dreams may become tomorrow’s reality and the day after tomorrow’s memory. But if we are not dreaming for ourselves, where can the memory come from? And plus, if we can not even master our own dreams, how can we master the future of our society? Ladies and gentlemen, with the advance in science and technology, we are faced with dilemma than ever, the controversy over surrogate mothers; the right way to treat animals; the pros and cons of the online pop culture. There

might be never definite answers to these questions, but how we judge and envision them to be will decide the future of us all. Luckily, I have found my dream, that is, to be a journalist.

To be honest with you, it has something to do with Ma Yan, whose story was reported by a French journalist in the first place. He is the one that bridged Ma Yan’s reality and her dream. I also want to be a bridge of this kind, and this dream in mind, I know I’ll have not only a future ahead, but also a precious memory behind. That’s end of my speech. Thank you very much.
